WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone gets an email from me DELETE it unread please.

My laptop got infected with an active X virus pretending to be antivirus of all things.

I am going to try to salvage my laptop but...  well we will see.

Borys

There is something, I hope no one else gets this stupid virus... "Internet Security 2010".

It looks like the laptop has been totally trashed...  I am going to attempt to save some files and just do a clean and restore.

Umm, how did this virus manifest itself?  I've been to that site Foxy linked us to, but have seen no ill-effects on my machine here...

I got a activeX control error, then my background went white and a bullshit popup for "Internet Security 2010" appeared saying my PC was infected and that I should download and install some stuff to fix it.  I couldn't kill this bogus message and tried to kill it with task manager but I got an error saying the admin had removed access to that.  Which is funny as I am the admin user.  Microsoft internet security suit then crashed trying to kill a worm.  I have been doing reboots trying to kill it ever since running various anti-virus and cleaning programs.

I thought I had it cleared but when I rebooted it came back.  I am down to deleting files from safemode command line trying to get rid of it.  At this point I just want the OS stable enough to allow me to burn some files to a disk.

I have been to the site before also and didn't have this problem.  I think this was one of the active x virus out there that works through a banner ad.

OK got the system stable enough...

Its the winupdate86.exe virus pain in the @$$...
