210 viewings on "Designing..."

I have posted AC Shinchi Roca SS & drawing.

Add details on the SS is certainly better.

"Miscellaneous weights: 300 tons, 3.3 %
High fire control - 250t
Marconi - long range wireless - 25t
Reserve - 25t
Crew confort mesures - climat control
Magazines climat control
Damage control - Extra pumps & generators"

When I finish the art for the new AC (nee BC) CSS Enterprise, I might post it there too, just to see if we get any nibbles.

Walter

Might be me, but if you have 300 tons of miscellaneous weights and 250 tons is used for the high FC, 25 tons for the radio and 25 tons for reserves, you got nothing left for the climate controls and the extra pumps and generators.

Jefgte

I agree with you Walter.

The 2 masts with light top fire control are certainly lighter than 250t.
125t is certainly more realist - (75t fore + 50t aft)
But,... that's Navalism rules.

250t for a 25.000t BB & 250t for a 10000t AC.

I made a suggest a few weeks ago to have % of the displacement for miscellaneous weight.

Mods disagree...

No what I mean is that you should assign more miscellaneous weights if you also want "Crew confort mesures - climat control", "Magazines climat control", and "Damage control - Extra pumps & generators". RIght now all your miscellaneous weights are allocated to "High fire control", "Marconi - long range wireless" and "Reserve". You'd probably need another 100-200 tons or so for those other featuers (just calling out some values there though)...
... but that is what I think of it.

Keeping the officers messhall on a certain temperature can be done with a few 100 kg of weight, rerouting used, wet steam to radiators and installing a few fans makes a huge difference.
Keeping the whole ship climate controlled is another matter.

But any allocated weight to crew comfort will give some benefit, even if it's not directly visible.
I suggest digging up pictures of "Ye classic 191X warship" and look at the crew spaces.  (I know we have members who have seen the Dreadnaught Texas, and I guess that's a fair ship to compare, with a lot of luxury, as the US warships were better equipped in that department.
Italian and Russian ships were among the worst- Italian warships didn't need the range, and the Russkies didn't care as long it worked.

The Austrians did not care much either. Sailors slept on the decks - even in ports. At least judging by photos.
The first purpose of a warship is to remain afloat. Anon.

That was not that uncommon, and related to the fact that it can get very warm in the Mediterranean. When the cruiser Fylgia went to on along trip to India, the crew on some occasion slept on deck as that was the coolest place to sleep, the ship itself being something of an oven.

Granted i have no idea if that was the case with the Austrians.

I've sent emails to Khymerion and SMS_Viribus_Unitas to ascertain their status.  Neither has actively posted here in two months, though the latter was apparently logged in on Halloween.

I'm encouraged that several new folks have signed up of late, even if they are preferring to read/lurk - obviously word of the sim is getting around some.
