Count Zeppelin Flies!
Readers of the Daily Star today we present a special edition of the Daily Star.
One of our photographers was present for the historic first flight of Count Zeppelin's airship. We present you with pictures. Count Zeppelin's determination has paid of. Today on Lake Constance (Biwa Lake) his giant airship flew for the first time. The flight lasted 18 minutes before some problems with the trimming mechanism ended the flight.

(OOC: This is straight from history. The only changes are the location, and the date which is exacly one year earlier.)

Rohirrim Rider

Today pictures reached the king about the flight of Count Zepplin. Theocro King was amazed at this feat to some extent, having heard of a similar project attempted by the Californians about thirty years ago. While the war goes back and forth, Theocro thought of the recent siege of Brithomber and the legend of Theoden's Charge. "This device, if made smaller, might do for the Nazgul of the Red Day reenactments," said the king. "However, it could use some wings to make it scarier".

Ship presumed Lost!
July 3rd

The ship SS Mary Ann, with 40 passangers abord is overdue and presumed lost. She departed Los Angeles bound for Phoenix. When last seen she was in good condition and on time. So it is feared that she has been lost to enemy action.


Vanishing Ships!
July 13th

The Mystery ship has vanished! Apparently it was launched this week under the cover of night. But a stranger thing has happened. Today two hours after the renown scientists, Mr Taschovitch and Mr Tesla, went on board for a tour of NSS James Watt, she too vanished. Witnesses reported a strange fog, thirty minutes later when the fog cleared, NSS James Watt was gone. Strangely no one on the crowded harbor of Olympia reported her departure. It is the opinion of the Daily Star that these twin dissaperances are not coincidential.


Scientist in "Legion Condor"
July 20th

It has come to our attention that a number of scientist, specialist in torpedoes, "volunteered" in the Condor Legion. They left in the liner Deutschland on July 18th. we can only pray and hope they survive the bloodthirsty Jaguar warriors from America.


Unrest continues in Australia!
July 25th

Yesterday a peaceful demonstration ,by independence seekers, was violently attacked by French agents provocateur. Twenty seven demonstrators where injured in the attack. Fortunatly elements of the 1st DesCalDiv where present. They were able to stop the attack and save further people from being injured. Under interogation the agents revealed that they where employed by the Evil Empire. New Switzerland calls on the French to stop their bastardly attacks on innocent civilians.


Phoenix Missing!
August 5th

Phoenix departed Liberia bound for Lisbon four months ago. She is now two months overdue. People are starting to worry, with rumors of a French attack on them in the air.


Pirate supported by France!
August 20th

One of the pirates captured in the Independance Day engaement revealed that they had been resupplied by a French vessel in Clipperton Island. Those bastardly French cant keep their dirty hands out of other poeple's buisness. They not only attack innocent civilians, support bloodthirsty barbarians, but also supply murderers who fly the black flag of Piracy. The time of reckoning is near. The power of the wicked shall not last.

The SSS has found out that two pirate vessels will be resupplying in Clipperton Island in the near future. NSS Anchorage and NSS Pegasus have been dispatched with the purpose of ridding the seas of this plague.


Science Grants
September 4th

Mr Ballin ,of the Swiss-American Line, has donated the equivalent of 1 MBP toward the advancement of aviation. In the words of Mr.Ballin, "Now if only that airship could carry passengers...."

Were Orodruin in the Caribbean Sea, Rohan might have dispatched her to search for the missing Phoenix. But she is in the Pacific and attempting to track down raiders. She might be able to assist in hunting the Mary Ana, but with an Ocean so large, and Anahuac ships to be found, Rohan might not be of much help in this matter.

Considering Rohan and the Anahuac Empire's proximity to Clipperton Island, and with the rumors of piracy and Anahuac raiders in that area, and that it happens to be on the primary supply route between Rohan and New Beleriand, Rohan will move to patrol this area until the French Navy can arrive. As Rohan has several cruisers in that area of the Pacific, two or three will be dispatched in the next week.

(OCC: We would not want the pirates to escape on us now, would we?)

Unofficial Reply:
How do the French explain the presense of French Navy shells on board the pirate ships? The goverment has recovered a dud from Pegasus. The shell is of the same type as the ones in use by the French Navy. Those frogs not even lie but are now protecting the pirates with warships, under the cover of a peacefull patrol. We shall see who will triumph in the fight between good and evil!

Lifeboat recovered!
September 10th

A lifeboat from the Mary Ann has been found. Inscribed on the lifeboat was a Skull and Crossbones and the following inscription: Vive le France! It appeares that pirates under French control have done this macabre thing.

The New Swiss and Germans may be slightly biased were it concerns the French. Rohan is more on the side of caution and realism. Since the French cannot get warships to the area of rumored piracy for two months, Rohan will send four cruisers to patrol the general area near Clipperton Island until such time as the French Navy can relieve Rohan of this burden. Rohan must do this in order to maintain the supply lines for the troops in New Beleriand. The cruisers will be the new combat cruiser Narmacil, and purchased Confederate cruisers Teton, Modoc, and Klamath.

Clipperton Island is south southwest of Mexico....nearly straight west from Nicaragua. Can't give you a distance, but its in the New World, as oppose to in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

(Battle of Clipperton Island, September 15th 1899)

Battle!

Pirates destroyed!
September 24th

As our cruisers arrived in Clipperton Island, what do they find but a pair of pirates.
The pirates began firing at our ships. Nessie imidietly responded. The rear pirate ship was driven aground trying to escape and destroyed. The other ship engaged our ships in a running fight, until she was spectacularly destroyed by a 8" shell from Anchorage. The French ressuply ship unable to run or fight surrendered to us. But at this point a pair or raiders tried to ambush our ships. Anchorage and Nessie turned to engage this new threat. Within minutes one of the raiders, identified as No.6, was crippled by guns and torpedoes. The other seeing the destruction of his partner, fleed. Since our ships where low on ammo, and some Rohan warships had arrived to take care of the other raider, our ships did not pursue. Unfortunately two battles had taken their strain on Nessie's engines, they gave out, and Nessie had to be taken under tow. With the last enemy ship apperently sunk. Anchorage finished of the crippled No.6 with torpedoes.


French Ship Captured!
September 24th

Those lying, bastardly French! They not only supplied the pirates with the best ammo and coal possible. But they even have the gall to flag their threchorous transports under foreign flags. The SS St. Julian, caprtured during the Battle, was flying the flag of California. They will pay for using tactics of cowards.


Marines to Clipperton!
September 25th

It has been announced that a pair of Atlanta class cruisers and a battalion of Marines will be send to Clipperton Island to make sure it can no longer be used as a base for pirates.

With the recent return of the Narmacil and Teton to New Beleraind and at least another month before French Navy vessels arrive at Clipperton Island, Rohan will send Thengel, Battleship of the Mark with Teton to keep watch over the island until French forces arrive. Unless the French have decided not to send ships, in which case Rohan will keep a watch on the island until the middle of November, when the Thengel will need to retire back to New Beleriand for resupply and rest for her crew. Cruiser escort for the Thengel may change as needed.

Have you seen the Clipperton Isle? If yes, you must know that this isle couldn't be the base of the fleet. There s nothing to hide from sea and nowhere to have a station.
It's a dangerous place and only foolish capitan could make Clipperton the point of station and even a base.

We will give the ship safe passage, and an escort. We too wish to avoid war.

But we do not take lightly the talk that it was our own plot. We do not sponsor piracy unlike some people in the world.
