Slipways and drydocks

Slipways can be used to build ships.  Drydocks can both build and repair ships.The dimensions indicate max ship messurments.

In addition to a dollar cost, slips and drydocks have a BP cost equal to their level, representing cranes, derricks, and other heavy equipment.  Class zero slips and docks have such limited supporting equipment, though, that the BP cost is effectively nil.

Construction or expansion of slips and docks is limited to a maximum of $6 per six months.  The BP cost, if any, can be allocated at any point during the process.

The cost of expanding a slipway or drydock is simply the difference between old and new costs.  It is assumed that slips/docks are built with later expansion in mind.  They are, naturally, unusable during expansion.

Type 0, Dry-dock 70 meters/230 feet, cost $4
Type 1, Slipway 120 meters/393 feet, cost  $9 +1 BP
Type 1, Dry-dock 120 meters/393 feet, cost $12 +1 BP
Type 2, Slipway 170 meters/557 feet, cost $12 + 2 BP
Type 2, Dry-dock 170 meters/557 feet, cost $16 + 2 BP
Type 3, Slipway 220 meters/721 feet, cost $16 + 3 BP
Type 3, Dry-dock 220 meters/721 feet, cost $21 + 3 BP
Type 4, Slipway 270 meters/885 feet, cost $21 + 4 BP
Type 4, Dry-dock 270 meters/885 feet, cost $27 + 4 BP
Type 5, slipway 320 meters/1049 feet, cost $27 + 5 BP
Type 5, Dry-dock 320 meters/1049 feet, cost $34 + 5 BP

Drydocks may be equipped to construct more than one ship at once, provided that a one-time charge for acquisition of required equipment has been paid. Drydocks so upgraded are designated with a "+":

Type 0+ Dry Dock: upgrade charge $0.5
Type 1+ Dry Dock: upgrade charge $1.0
Type 2+ Dry Dock: upgrade charge $1.5
Type 3+ Dry Dock: upgrade charge $2.0
Type 4+ Dry Dock: upgrade charge $2.5
Type 5+ Dry Dock: upgrade charge $3.0


Floating Drydocks

Floating docks have no capacity to build ships, only overhaul/refit/repair them.  They can be towed at low speed across oceanic distances.

Floating drydocks have a lower cash cost than other drydocks but have a much higher BP cost.  

Type 0, Dry-dock 70 meters/230 feet:  $3/$3 BP
Type 1, Dry-dock 120 meters/393 feet: $6/6 BP
Type 2, Dry-dock 170 meters/557 feet: $9/9 BP
Type 3, Dry-dock 220 meters/721 feet:, $12/12 BP
Type 4, Dry-dock 270 meters/885 feet: $16/16 BP
Type 5, Dry-dock 320 meters/1049 feet:  $20/20 BP

Floating docks can be built at a rate of up to $6/6BP per half year, at any military port.  No specific slipway or drydock is required for its construction.

Ports

These are military ports, with full infrastructure and a very limited amount of harbor defense guns.  They also include barracks, administrative buildings, storage depots, workshops and other structures needed for the running of the navy, and repair and maintance of warships.  A level 0 port is the smallest to base ships for any extended time, and to have coal reserves to recoal more than a handful of small ships.

Construction or expansion of ports is limited to a maximum of $6 per six months.  The BP cost, if any, can be allocated at any point during the process.

The cost of expanding a port is simply the difference between old and new costs.  They are usable during expansion - there just might be some inconveniences to put up with.

Type 0, up to type 0 slipways and/or dry-docks and maximum of 2, cost $5 and 0.5 BP
Type 1, up to type 1 slipways and/or dry-docks and maximum of 3, cost $15 and 2.0 BP
Type 2, up to type 2 slipways and/or dry-docks and maximum of 5, cost $30 and 3.0 BP
Type 3, up to type 3 slipways and/or dry-docks and maximum of 7, cost $45 and 4.0 BP
Type 4, up to type 4 slipways and/or dry-docks and maximum of 9, cost $60 and 5.0 BP
Type 5, up to type 5 slipways and/or dry-docks and maximum of 11, cost $80 and 6BP

Port Supply

A port of a given size only has the facilities (coal/oil, stores, workshops, amenities) to maintain a certain total amount of ships on a long-term basis (two weeks or more):

Type 0:  5,000 t of shipping
Type 1:  40,000 t
Type 2:  125,000 t
Type 3:  250,000 t
Type 4:  500,000 t
Type 5:  1,000,000 t

Ships passing through can make use of a port, but it should be assumed that formations in excess of a port's capacity will need to bring their own colliers and oilers along if they wish to top up their bunkers...
