When Fisher first returned to the Admiralty to looked around for any design that was available. Sir Eustace Tennyson d'Eyncourt Director of Naval Construction for the Royal Navy had prepared a design for an improved Tiger Class battle cruiser, known as Study – Y. The design was intended as a BC companion to the Revenge class battleships. The design was rejected based upon speculation that the ships under water protection was inadequate. Fisher at once approved the design and ordered two examples.







The next move Fisher made was to get more battleships to face the German threat. Additional orders were placed for Revenge class battleships. Bringing in the Wallsend yard which hadn't produced a warships and Scotts at Greenock which had last built a battleship with HMS Ajax.

Battleships being built for the export market that had been halted were ordered resumed. The ex-Almirante Cochrane being launched cleared a building slip for additional construction.

With the Battle Cruiser losses from the Battle of Straits of Otranto on August 5th, 1914 and Battle of Dogger Bank on August 8th, 1914 the Royal Navy had lost seven battle cruisers. So naturally Fisher was not satisfied with just the two Leopard class ships. The Lord High Admiral had very specific ideas on what made a good warship. To Fisher speed was everything as it allowed a commander tactical options in combat. The result was in many ways a throw back to Fisher's first Battle Cruisers the Invincible class laid down in 1906. The Renown class were very long ships with more powerful machinery than any previous British Battle cruiser. This was at the cost of armor no better than those ships from nearly 10 years in the past. This combined with a return to the light 4" quick firing secondaries that had grown out of favor but Fisher ordered a return to.

As German raiders ran free in the Atlantic Fisher wasn't content. Especially as information on the size and gun power on the German ships had become clear something new was required. The result was the largest British warship yet. The intention was to build a warship with more powerful guns than the Germans and able to run them down. There was a desire for 35 knots but it wasn't practical and so Fisher had to settle for 33 knots. While having a thicker belt than the Renown class the Incomparable had huge sections of hull with no armor protection at all. With Fisher pushing for speed in completing the ships meant that large tube boilers with their matching large space foot print were used again. Incomparable made use of boiler rooms stacked on top of each other to provide the massive power required to reach 33" knots. This combined the lack of an upper belt meant that 50% of the ships power had no armor protection.

The last of Fisher's capital ship designs was the Admiral Class. They were designed as battleships as a political fiction to deal with complaints by Cabinet.  By October 1914 the British were starting to get a good idea as to the details on the new German ships. Additional battleships were clearly in the need. At same time Fisher was determined to push capital ships speed even higher. Some of the worst elements of the Incomparable Class were fixed by use of small tube boilers and a smaller powerplant to shrink the boiler rooms to be below the armor deck.  Still many in the Royal Navy viewed the design as a tin clad and horribly under protected.  Also worry on if the 18" guns would be available caused a switch back to 15" guns.

This type of BC is not suitable for Byzantium because it is too weakly armored for the on-board artillery.

I am trying to create a 1918 South Dakota and keep getting 'failure' capsize.  Dont know what to do with such.  I just about removed the turrets to remove top weight and still has the alert.

Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?

I get same error no matter how much engine I put in.  I  have tried 23, 26 and 30 knots.
