September 1900

Seven capital ships destined for the Imperial Russian Navy have been launched within days of each other. The six Borodino class battleships will carry a powerful armament of four 12 inch guns and eight 10 inch guns, ensuring their status as the most powerful warships in the world upon their commissioning. While many nations are moving towards ships armed solely with the 11 or 12 inch gun, at typical engagement ranges the superior fire rate of the 10 inch gun will create much havoc and devastation upon the unfortunate enemy ship, sparking fires and compelling the enemy to surrender. The Admiral Nakhimov is just as revolutionary for armored cruiser design, immune to the guns typically carried by enemy cruisers and equipped with four powerful 10 inch guns. In a battle between the Admiral Nakhimov and Royal Navy's Black Prince, it is doubtful that the British warship would emerge victorious. This is truly a great day for Russian shipbuilding and a great day for the the Imperial Russian Navy.

The Russian foreign ministry has begun discussions with Japan to renew the 1898 Russo-Japanese Treaty, set to expire in 1901. Both Russia and Japan have significant interests in the Orient, with Manchuria generally recognized as being within the Russian sphere of influence and Formosa and Corea being within the Japanese sphere of influence. Although the 1898 Treaty has proven satisfactory to both nations in clarifying spheres of influence and preventing conflict, the Japanese immigration in the region has become a contentious issue and potential source of tension in the upcoming negotiations.

EDIT: Edited for typo, it's a 1898 treaty, not 1908 treaty.
