The Bavarian Motoren Werkstatte will send in their 2 latest cars.

The 2 SilbernGeist towncars will prove that motorcars are an important part of the future.

OOC,any coincidence in namegiving or acronims is purely intentional.

Hmm no Peugeots? wink.gif

(Adds entries - notes no historical BMWs until late 1920s - invents model name.)

Oh, this is a Rover 8, BTW:

With only 8hp, it's going to get steamrollered by the Damilers...assuming they finish, of course. cool.gif

Orange carmakers Horch of Cape Town, BACH of Johannesburg announced their intention to participate.

Herr August Horch emigrated to Orange in the early 1890's and is one of the pioneers of automobiles. BACH was founded the Hungarian engineers Donat Banki, Janos Csonka, and Orange entepeneur Joachim Hofstatter. There's also a third Orange car manufacturer, Durban Motors, founded by a retired cavalry brigadier, but they would not participate.

Good to see the Orange entries. smile.gif

(BTW folks, model names help, driver names especially so. wink.gif )

(OOC: Would Rohan be in character if it sent a fast horse and horseman to such an event? Or should I be looking into figuring out what Rohan is going to do for horseless autocars....Stanley Steamer comes to mind. As does taking some much later Ford "horse" names.)

Regrettably the rules only provide for the mechanical version of horsepower.

It's a fun thought, though... cool.gif

Yup the Baron's entry is from NS or more correctly Australia. NS does not have a local Automobile manufaturer, hence the Dutch car.

I would have expected a lot of British (= Norman) mfgs. to set up shop in NS...or are they all in the PDRofNS now?

(calls dibs on SS Cars/Jaguar for Kenya and MG for New Britain (or should that be New Normandy? happy.gif ))

Durban Motors decided to take part in the competition after all. Their car brand was named Rolls-Royce, after the Company founder Kaarl Rolls, and the chief mechanic Frederik Henrik Royce. Their car is an Rolls-Royce Golden Ghost.

The Middle Kingdom doesn't yet have a car industry and no inventors breaking their heads over it. However, it is noted by a few noblemen and they will keep an eye on the race. Probably to buy their new toys soon.

Gran Colombia's primary automobile manufacturers can't be bothered, but the small firm of Gonzalez y Ortiz will be sending a GyO III modified for racing in Africa.

Drivers will be Ramon Salazar and Angel Ortiz.

After the Orange advance party surveying the race route was taken into costody, held for interrogation by the Police for some ridiculous spying accusations, all the three Orange teams withdrew. Despite the assurances by the DKB Government, the attitude of local authorities does not bode well for the fairness of the Trophy, and the security of foreign contenders.

Interesting, considering that both the Itala and Spyker managed to finish the Peking to Paris race in OTL. Is there a story to go with the race?

The important thing, really, is that the Gran Colombian team placed above the French entries. Viva Gran Colombia!

Interesting, considering that both the Itala and Spyker managed to finish the Peking to Paris race in OTL.

Well I actually entered the number of entries into a random number generator, and it spit out the results. wink.gif The number of finishers I chose was off the top of my head, justified by the fact that this will set the number of points-paying finishing position in future Grands Prix. happy.gif

QUOTE (Dfox)
Is there a story to go with the race?

Not yet. I really got the stuffing knocked out of my motivation last month and I'm having to rebuild it from scratch...

QUOTE (Ithekro)
Hurrah!

Steam triumphs over the infernal-combustion machines! "You want to win the race? You're going to need a Wizard." smile.gif

Yes, and something tells me the driver of the #11 Panhard just might like to have some "words" with the GC "drivers"... wink.gif

Well they say imitation is the sincerest for of flattery.

An interview with Baron Munchausen by the Sydney Times:

ST: So how was the race?

BM: The race? What race? Oh yeah that one in Africa. It went fine.

ST: Did you see any of the other contestants?

BM: No way! I took the shortcut!

(raised eyebrows)

ST: The shortcut?

BM: Of course, you should see the scenery. There are these magnificent waterfalls, beautiful! And then there was this city. I was just driving along and suddenly from the midst of the jungle these gigantic ruins suddenly rose. I think they call it Zibwe...Simba...Zimb something. Oh and there where the...

ST: Are you sure you took the right route?

BM: Ah! That reminds me when I was getting close to King Solomon's Mines, these two daredevils passed ahead of me chasing a gazelle. You know I think they were contestants, I seem to recall them from the starting line.

ST: You mentioned a gazelle. What other exotic wildlife did you observe?

BM: Magnificent beasts! Lion, cheetas, Rhinoceros, and two Elephants fighting. One of them actually flipped my car over. But then continued fighting the other one. (Siamese observer seen busily taking notes in the background) That Styker is a tough car. I just flipped her over and continued. And finnaly there where these giant feroucious black apes. Each of them was taller than a man and strong enough to lift the car. There was also the Mbebe...

ST: But surely Mr. Munchausen you are making that up. We know of no such creatures except in fairytales.

BM: Ah my dear friends I saw them with my own eyes. Here I even sketched a couple of the beasts for you.

(drawing of Gorilla beating its chest, and a brachiosaurus)

ST: So did you have any problems with the local population?

BM: Most of the aborigonies where pretty friendly, but there was a group that chase me for nearly ten miles after I killed one of their cows. Those native can run, the dust didnt slow them down one bit. And then there was that stuck up blind policeman whi stopped me for speeding, didnt he know there was a race on? Couldn't tell a Baron from a commoner a hands length away. Probably was paid by one of the other racers. Detained me long enough to let them beat me.

ST: So what do you plan to do now?

BM: Hear about a Peking to Paris race, doubt the Chinese will let me enter though. Considering that German Policeman the Chinese will probably arrest me outright as a spy. Only way they can win.

ST: And that my friend was Baron Munchausen recently arrived from Africa where he raced in the Trophaenrennen Afrikanisches race. (turning to the other interviewer) Did he even finish the race?

ST2: Not as far as I can tell. Last I hear he had to hitch a ride home after his car got stuck in the Sahara.

ST1: You sure? I hear it fell into Lake Vikttoria and the Kriesgmarine had to fish him out.
