Rocky,

Actually, as I originally simmed her, freeboard was 6.5m forward and 4.4 aft, and she had the 'fire in the heaviest weather' advantage (seaboat quality was 1.9).   But  as you specified economy, and with those stats she was close to 6000 tons, I decided she needed to go on a diet.

Still, even with the stepped quarter deck, she was has the Good Seaboat advantage, and that lower freeboard aft only is for 35% of her length.

If you'd like, I'll return her to her original sim state and you can evaluate that version with respect to your concerns.

Interesting, and I may tinker with it.  There's an issue with recoil that will have to be considered - probably as a result of the higher freeboard.

Example :
The GC Jatibonico class is 84m x 8m, featuring 5 guns spots and 2 sets of  torpedo tubes on centerline. Waterline area is 414m sq.

The proposed vessel has 5 gun spots on centerline (albeit longer guns), but no torpedo tubes above deck, is 15m longer and is 14m wider, with  3.9x the waterline area. I'd think the secondary 140mm would fit in that extra 7m to each side.

The overall dimensions are not the critical factor, the amount of citadel is. If you want all the guns and their magazines to be protected by the main belt then 64m and not 99m is the limiting factor. If the guns are L50 they are just short of 10m long. With some workspace behind them in a turret; let's say 13m for the centreline gun and 5m for the end guns in dackspace need, this will give you less then 30m for the superstructure and the secondaries (less then the space needed by the main guns due to blast effects)..

A private DKB designer sends a package to the Armada with the following deign. With notes:

-Torpedo tube mounted in ram bow for last-ditch convoy defense. Shoot a torpedo to 'sofen up' where you intend to ram.
-Auxilary coal boilers to allow for emergency use of stores taken from older merchies being escorted
-Speed more than adequate for convoy defense.
-Main battery gun arrangement A-Xs-Y
-Secondaries in traditional casemates, with an additional 100mm on each end in a deck mounting with weather shields. Aft deck 100mm raised over 65mm mounts.
-65mm anti-airship guns mounted aft in a trianguar arrangement, two on deck level abeam and ahead of X turret, third mounted ahead of and above X turret. All with splinter shields.
