Would it be worth it to do this?

Understand it to say that the center shaft is a cruiser VTE and the outboard shafts are turbines, so removed the center shaft and VTE completely. Install new 1916 turbines on outer shafts. Remove coal boilers and replace with oil burners. New engines up speed to 28kts, new boilers increase range to 7000nm @ 12 kts. Removed deck armor (old style) and replaced w/ new KC deck. Did same w/ CT armor. Removed armor from guns and replaced w/ new KC. Added an armour belt and end belt. Added FC. Removed single 45cm torpedo tube. Installed 2 twin 50cm tubes. Installed long range W/T and Sehendes Auge (~Radar). Used room previously for coal bunkers to increase magazine space. Retrimmed after reconstruction. I have limited grasp of how to calculate cost, but here is the new SS:

IMO, the ship is too old.
Interresting to rebuilt a 10 yo ship but not a 21 yo.

I'd have to say not really - Athena/Diana was already more or less rebuilt once, when she was acquired.

What I would suggest would be to make use of that significant weight/strength reserve she has, and refit her as a training ship.
