24 T2x120/45 mlle 1926 from C11 are installed on 12 x D8 destroyers from 1913-1915.
These 1000t destroyers require reconstruction (which I rarely do).

Still slowly trying to look up information to inform techs.
Haven't had a ton of browsing time to make it through the various books.

Cruiser Construction
There seems to be room for Two Techs here.

A) Increase in tonnage caps and allowance for turrets.
probably tied to the 1934 Brooklynn Class
""the light construction necessary to keep the prototype Brooklyn class within the 10,000 ton treaty limit has led to a greater number of lost bows than we expected""
...not a ringing endorsement, but

This also seems like the proper time to add the Transom.

1934-3 would be a 1931 Cruiser Tech ? Push to 1933 since we're past 1931 ?

B) Introduction of automatic guns 210mm (?) and less. This would be tied to US General Board decisions when they moved from development to approval in 1943.
If building ships with the tech is to be possible in 1943-4, then a research date 3 years prior is needed.
So 1940 Tech?

Engine Propulsion :
Not yet finding enough to justify another Tech

Looking at the SHP and machinery weights for 1930s US cruisers,
I am not seeing a shift in SHP:Wt that the extra PSI should cause.
However, the stats listed are 'Design' and switch from SHP to IHP.
Oddly the Pensacola class was designed for 60SHP/T, while the decade later
Brooklynns were designed for 55.8SHP/T...less.
However, I believe the earlier vessels didn't hit their designed speed.

In terms of hull strength,
""the light construction necessary to keep the protoype Brooklyn class within the 10,000 ton treaty limit has led to a greater number of lost bows than we expected"

Signals
So, radio ranges have to move up.
Found these tidbits.
1941 -iff transponder
1939 - HFDF – direction finding

on another topic :
Pg 125 mentions two 5" guns can provide illumination out to 20,000 yards.
I presume Starshell. The SKV standard is 12,000(?)yards from 3" guns.

July 1st, 1930

Ali took his wife's hand and helped her to the gangplank from the motor launch onto HMS Sol.  A month in seclusion in sunny Dominica was something straight from Allah, a month in which aside from a handful of servants from the ship, no one, not even the colonial governor, had disturbed their time on the beach.

"I wish we didn't have to go" Ali said, holding Shirin.  She laughs "We're on a voyage around the world dearest, we will have plenty of time on this holiday."  "Yes", he replies, "but now we bounce from colony to colony, being invited to dinners and attending receptions".  She smiles, "I know you would rather avoid it, but this is who you are too.  But now you have me to help you through those dreadful dinners and receptions."

Ali laughs, then Shirin cuts her eyes at him.  "And in the meantime, the Princess Royal would like to invite you to a private reception in the stateroom".

The two manage to keep their expressions and gait at least mostly neutral as they disappear through the doors into the massive royal suite aboard the cruiser-sized yacht, the door shutting as Sol begins knifing through the waters, headed South towards Terra del Fuego, and the roughest part of the voyage.

Been seeing a lot of unfamiliar photos of historical ships on social media of late.  There have certainly been a lot of times where I'm inclined to call it AI but maybe forgotten stuff just gets found and posted, I dunno.

The 12,000 t USN submarine with 4x2 8" turrets (Lexington/Sara types) was certainly a puzzle.

On the other hand, I've also stumbled across a couple guys who do 1:350 and larger ship models and some of the close-up photos they post are certainly helpful to me in understanding the size and location of bits like boats and lights.

General Naval Discussions / Re: The Union Fleet in Color
Last post by The Rock Doctor - April 25, 2024, 07:55:39 PM
A typical Vilnius Union Navy patrol group, as might be observed in just about any of the Union's overseas ports:

  • A korweta provides short-ranged oceanic patrol capabilities or works with its subsidiary vessels to prosecute hostile submarine contacts, escort coastal convoys, or box in smugglers.  Its commanding officer also leads the group
  • Three submarine chasers and/or coastal escorts operate along the coastlines around the port and into the littorial zones, undertaking ASW patrols, search and rescue, and protecting coastal traffic as required.
  • Three to six harbour patrol boats undertake port security, customs inspections, and other functions in and around the port itself

For many Union officers, this modest cluster of vessels - collectively displacing less than one modern torpedo-boat - is their first experience in commanding a group of warships.

QuoteYou could but why not just give the destroyers new DP guns as well?

It bothers me to throw 24 T2x120s from 1926 (0.48 BP) in the trash.
It's just a project, I'll test it with desT2x114DP.

Done 1730t with 3T2x114DP mlle 1932 => cost 1.73$ & 1.73BP

(cost with 3T2x120 mlle 1926 => 1.64$ & 1,64BP)
