Designed as the follow on class to the Albions, the Formidable class were considered a substantial improvement over the Albions. Coming in aproximently 1500t heaver at normal displacement, the improvements were mainly to speed and armament. Improved armor types allowed for a similar thickness to be more effective increasing the ship's overall protection. The protection layout was inhearated from previous ships, and was only altered to accommodate the hullform. A design speed of nearly 19knts gave them a comfortable margin over most capital ships of the era aside from the Italian Lombardia and Latium class ships. The greatest improvement came in the armament. Host to a new generation of weapons in a vastly identical layout to the Albion's. This made the Formidable and her sisters truly capable of living up to there names for years to come.

Designed as a the ship to replace the Destructive class in production, the Fantastic Class incorperated several improvments that improved the overall qualities of design. The forcastle was raised to improve there seakeeping quality, greatly improving the ability for the design to maintain speed in a seaway over the "turtleback" of the earlyer designs. The design also added a aditional 12lber gun in place of the aft 6lber on the Destructives. Overall, the design was considered a great improvment on a minimal increase in displaement.

Im on the fence about this guy. I can imagine drooping a pair in the Indian Ocean to be a good idea, but what do others think?

It would have to run away if one of my 9,600 ton ACs came along. I would focus on developing a cruiser capable of defeating my 9,600 ton ACs as they are too fast for BBs to catch but too well armed and armored for most ACs to fight.
These are raiders. I hold no illusion that these would get whaluped by any proper AC. Against AMCs and smaller cruisers however, these are capable ships. I am most likely going to build a pair for the Indian Ocean and use them all but exclusively there. I have a "real" AC, just need to tweek some things to finish her.

Big, long ranged, good armor (but there's some unarmored hull above the upper belt, or the belt's VERY shallow below water at normal displacement), and fast for the period. I have no idea, though, how the gunners are going to be able to tell who fired what, between the 9.2s, 7.5s, and 6s all banging away. Kind of a cross between Duke of Edinburgh and Minotaur, I guess, though with twin 7.5s vs singles.
What 6" guns? she has 4" tertiary guns. I know the armor is not prefect, but its a limited AC. Im sure if I add 500-1000t of displacement that I could make the armor better. At the expected battle ranges of the time, the difference will be more noticeable between the 7.5 and 9.2.
I'd have sworn I saw some 6s, but apparently I was imagining them. If there were problems telling the difference between 12" and 8", there'll be more telling the difference between 9.2 & 7.5.
Key point is expected ranges. As time goes on, this disadvantage will become more of a handycap but for 1900, it is not viewed as too great a downside for the advantages it gives.

Big? It's huge. And flawed, e.g. because the armor is rather thin. At this point in time I would especially expect the upper belt to be ~50% thicker.
It shares the armor of the Formidables in terms of thickness. Basically it is a stretched Formidable to accommodate more 9.2" guns
It's wasting a lot of strength on deck armor that will never be used. 4" of armor over the citadel??
Its a multi-deck configuration like the rest of my battleships. Only a 2" main deck that tapers to 1" over the ends.
I just noticed that your Cressy First Class Cruiser has a 53 inch barbette on the secondary guns. Correcting that might save you enough tonnage for a new starting destroyer or two.
