Simply put, the first at-war player to get air conditioning installed in my house wins the African war. Immediately. All enemy soldiers will spontaneously combust, and all enemy vehicles will explode in a manner that makes our Romanians and Wesworld Filipinos sigh with quiet envy.
The temperature and humidity here in Ottawa (35 Celsius - 43 with humidity) is far too freakin' hot for this Canadian boy.
I hope this is a joke,
On the other hand, it's not much better over here. But I'm using fans and buckets of ice. Cheaper than airco, and more natural.
Northerners are cute when they complain about heat...
Seriously though: I did 2 summers in Boston living in an apartment with no AC. Even when it was 85f out, I was miserable. I don't know how anyone lives without AC.
A decent one room window unit might be a good investment just in case in the future. I bet there's not one to be found within 500 miles now though.

It takes more energy to freeze the ice than it takes to chill a modest volume of air...

How about a nice invite south of the Border... no further then Buffalo... Central Air, a great lake to swim in....

101 yesterday in Rhode Island and I don't have air conditioning. Not even a fan. And I went to look for one today but... no dice.
The temperature and humidity are no laughing matter, my friend.
*Laughs at Rocky* :P
Seriously, though. You can take my 33 C weather, free with some oil...33 C is too cold for this Texan boy. (Really!) Our heat index is 117 F....

1. Create a shade alley on your southern exposure as it faces the sun.
2. Open the west and east windows and close the north windows.
3. If you have an attic blower-use that instead of the house fans to cool the top of the house.
4. Let natural convection then do its thing and drink water and fruit juices.
5. Avoid sports drinks and caffeine based drinks.
6. Its better to eat salt based foods like a light calorie cracker than to tale salt tablets direct.
7. Wear light colored clothing and a straw hat that breaths outside and STAY outside in wind and shade.
8. Don't be afraid to drink and sweat a lot. Its normal and HEALTHY.
9. Keep a small mirror handy to check your face for flush. When you raccoon a red around the eyes and nose or when your skin feels sand or paper dry to the touch and you do not feel sweat forming, seek shade and medical attention immediately.
10. As a result of (9) first aid is to cool the outside body down slowly and to hydrate the same way. A heat casualty who passes out is no joke and should be treated as if he was a shock victim except that you want to LOWER his body core temperature not raise it. In any event, of he can take water, apply it first as evaporative cooling by sponging to the arms and upper torso while avoiding the lower facial area though sponging the forehead, neck and the top of the head is okay.
11. When the victim can drink, give him water in sip amounts in measured intervals so that his body can transport it and use it gradually, otherwise he will CRAMP either because he hasn't enough water over time or DROWN, because he has too much in his dehydrated state. He usually can't tell which danger condition is present. That is why you meter and watch him in recovery until he either starts sweating and peeing and/or paramedics arrive.
D.
It may have hit 23C in town and poked 26C in the woods. My poor house is a blistering 16C right now. Ahh the tribulations of living <2miles from the Pacific.
It got to 31 today, I had to convert my settings to use this strange scale called Celsius. Kids ran around in the sprinkler as I made a pathetic attempt to prevent my lawn from turning brown.
Michael
I've had my AC on pretty much all day these few days when it's been over 100 degrees F :D

Depends on the means to get the ice. In our case, I get it by the kilo-load from the CO2 factory, where it is a waste product of the liquifying proces of the CO2.
Hmm... how to convert excess heat into a bigger temperature differencial???
Ah, the blessings of dry weather. 96F/33C, but low humidity makes it bearable.
Swamp cooler (humidifier) works great, waiting for my landlord to install it. 50W vs. 3kW saves a lot.
I can only approve Maddox' solution. :)
I think we are all being punished with weather similar to what Foxy and My troops are fighting in the rainey season at the equator....
Charles
Me thinks yee people complain too much.
Hasn't been less than 110 F around here for most of the month. Dropped to the 90s today and boy was it feeling cool. Almost got my jacket out.
When it goes over 20C I just sweat a lot and keep to the shade.
I can help you Rock, I must save Paul, in Germany.
...
You know who is Paul ? No ? It's a fabulous octopus. He would bring back a lot of money in bets.
NO FOOTY
, no, arg, brain melting, eyes boiling, mouth foaming....
Skin peeling back and blackening
raspy gurgles "Brains Brains, Brains".
Man, temperatures......110 F is low, Foxy! ;D ....(You've got the higher heat, I've got the higher heat index)

We had a fellow work here that had done roofing in Arizona, felt the same way about heat, wore his jacket all the time. He didn't hack it here at all- too cold. Me, I make it an office day when it's threatening to be 90+ inland. No point in going to the field, I just melt. On the other hand I rather like it when the field temperatures get down into the 40s and 50s as I can actually work without overheating. :)
monday was chilly after a week of 28-34°C, it was only 22°C. Now temps are rising again towards 30°C+
me not happy.

Yes indeed.
The last week was way too hot, up to 37 °C on Friday. On Monday we had ~25 degree C and I felt cold, but I hadn't taken a jacket with me. In the end, I actually caught a light cold...
And today it's too hot again (I don't like having 26 °C in my room at 8 o'clock in the morning) and it will get even hotter in the near future.
EDIT

Ah that Paul ;D
Yes he's fabulous. He correctly predicted the outcome of all 5(?) German soccer games. It's kind of funny considering the chance to do so was less than 3.125%.

According to wiki, he predicted 9 out of 10 games of the Internationalelf - he thought the Germans would win the Euro 2008 final in Vienna (Spain-Germany). I guess octopus stew will be a pretty popular dish this summer.
ROFFL... Guinness and I both know that you haven't lived till both the mercury and humidity are above 90.
Pretty close here today- projected high, 96 F; projected humidity, 65%.
Lucky! Projected high, 98; projected humidity, 94%.
I think I've lived....:)
Breaking news: Octopus picks Spain. Sorry Walter.
Hottest I've ever been: 1999. Fourth of July on the National Mall in DC. 105F, 50% Humidity, Heat Index: 134F. It was too hot to do anything, really. We eventually gave up and camped out at the first bar we could find that had air conditioning. I've never been so hot at any time in Georgia, even at football camp down by Albany, as I was that day.
Tex: where in Texas are you again? FYI: 98F with 94% humidity would mean a heat index of 170F...
170F? The heat index is about 123F....
Houston area, there abouts. A little south of Houston......
For your heat index calculating pleasure:
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/jkl/?n=heat_index_calculator
Houston today is forecasting 90F with a humidity of 61%. That works out to be a heat index of 100F.
Heh....maybe the people on the news messed up....
Anyways, I leave for 75 degree New Mexico, so... ;)

Hmm doesn't work for me. Forecast high 59F, dewpoint 51F, relative Humidity 86%...just gave me errors.

SAER is something that isn't really present at our forum....
Heck, I'm all for Spain...of course, being 1/4th Spanish (Not Mexican!) does that to you.

The heat index is calculated only if the actual temperature is above 27 °C (80 °F), dew point temperatures greater than 12 °C (54 °F), and relative humidities higher than 40%.
So if it's not 80F, it's not valid anyway...
... in the mean time...
*turns on airco* :)
Airco and pollen did give me the nastiest cold I have had in years, I just recovered from it but boy did it hurt. I was actually deaf for 2 days ! (blocked Tubes of Eustachius thingy, you really really don't want to experience it...)
Besides, airco is something we have in the car. But on a nice crisp morning of 27°C I just open the windows, crank up the sound system, and play "Mein Herz Brennt" by Rammstein. Just gives me the coolest feeling !
Got strange looks from the other guys in the traffic jam though. Can't imagine why. ;D
When I moved to the US I had constant neck pain for some months due to the everywhere present A/Cs.

As concerns Rammstein videoclips - it takes a twisted mind to come up with this one:

Sonne yah that was a good one. Du Haste is the most well known in the US. Benzin was a riot listening to the lyrics without a doubt an ode to Pyromania.
