To let everyone know: The birth of my second child is now imminent. He will absolutely be born on March 26, if he hasn't made his grand entrance before then.
When that happens, I'll be at reduced presence for a while. My goal is to get the Caliphate origin story done by then.
This shouldn't preclude anyone else's play. The mods have discussed the potential likelyhood of various unpleasantness in the 1920ish timeframe which might or might not include me as a belligerent, and are prepared for such a notion.
I won't be disappearing completely. Indeed, with plans to take a month off from work, I might even be more visible here if all goes well. :) But if you send me PMs or something over the next 6 weeks or so, expect a less prompt response than you might be used to.
If you have any schemes, proposals, etc. involving the Ottomans, Mughals, Persians, or Khazaks, now would be a good time to let me know though.
March 26th is a great date to have a birthday as my daughter can well attest.
Best wishes to you and your family!
Good Luck and Best wishes
Congratulations, did you get blue Cigars?
I got through the first one sans cigar, and he's turned out pretty good (so far). So I'm trying not to do anything differently for this one. :)

LOL, its kind of a Family joke. When I was born my dad didnt smoke but my Grandpa insisted he had to get Cigars, so he got these Blue Bubblegum Cigars and gave them away. he saved one for me and gave it to me when I got married, I still have it and honestly as stupid as it may sound its prized possessions (even if my Marriage was a total disaster)
It's the silly family heirloom stuff that always means the most. My first has a teddy bear on his bed that I dragged around by the arm for about 5 years, once upon a time. My Dad bought it in Buffalo of all places.
26 march... That's nearly a "Spring Baby" :-* :-* :-*
Best wishes for you & your Family.
Jef ;)
Congrats, Guinness.
Will he be a Bulldog or a Yellow Jacket when he grows up?

PLEASE say a Bulldog
His mother is a bulldog. I'm a BU Terrier though of course. Most of my family went to Vanderbilt, but I grew up a tech fan.
All that said, both boys will likely be GA State Panther fans after they start playing next year. Cheap convenient tickets.
Or, they can always join the king of teams that isn't Alabama....*hint, hint*
Pre-congratulations and good luck.

Oklahoma? ;)

No, no, Rice University. Yes, the Owls. What could be a better team then the one that got pounced by Houston 77-0?
Busy year for the Nverse members.
Eagerly awaiting further news then

LOL... Vandy- the team that God created for Homecoming.
Or so UGA thought!
Man, that was an AUsome game!
Also where "that's alright, that's ok, you'll work for me one day" originated.
One brother in law played tight end at Vandy. The other one us from Tuscaloosa and went to Bama. He taught offspring #1 to say "roll tide" and has pledged to pay for it should he choose Bama.
Babies for the Baby God!

:D :D :D :D ;)
The new little one arrived today at 8:29 EDT. 8 pounds 6 ounces and 21 inches long. He's nice and healthy and his mom is hanging in there.
I have both Massie's Dreadnought and Friedman's volume on US subs up to 1945 in the hospital room in an attempt to influence his interests.
Go Babbies...

Awesome, Mike.
Congratulations and may he soon understand the concepts of 'day' and 'night' as they relate to Mommy and Daddy's sleeping schedule. ;)
:)

Checking in: It's been a busy couple of weeks, but we're settling into a routine here. So I'm catching up on news, etc. :)
That is if buying one of these doesn't derail me:

Nice to see you're still alive.
ACKKK MINIVAN!!!! The most evil of all inventions, obviously Swiss in design. ;)
Yes, but my garage is all of 12 feet wide. Those power sliding doors are looking like a very very good idea.

Haz garodge? Vat is garodge? No parkz ootzidez?
Oh God no! The Pollen! I left the car in the driveway to cool off for 2 hours yesterday, and got something that looked like this:
Yikes!! That's making my allergies act up here just from the pictures.
Bleary eyed I sneeze my head off, lungs already sounding like badly tuned bagpipes.
Thanks Guinness.
impressive quantities of pollen.
We get dust in the fog, but *nothing* like that.
Closest is around August the tan oaks drop the fuzz from their leaves and you can see golden clouds drifting in the woods, not fun.
That's enough pollen to kill me or at least feel like I've paid a visit to hell :-\
Reminds me of Jacksonville, FL so many pine trees and huge amounts of pollen. It used to turn the lawn yellow.
My gray truck is day-glow yellow.
Pollen is blowing in the air like sand did in Iraq.
It's horrible.
I talk by typing at the moment- the cough drops and throat lozenges aren't cutting it.
Thank God im not prone to Alergies... That is NASTY lookin
Congratulations on the baby! It looks like our family schedules are very similar. 3 year old and 3 month old! ;D
Pops another Xertek that looks bad Im glad pollen just agrivates my allergies.
My car purchase is light years from Mario's. :)
We concluded on the Honda minivan. We really liked the new Toyota too, but it's more expensive when comparably equipped and they apparently aren't making them with the stuff we want yet. I like how the Honda drove better anyway.
For the N. Americans: we also really liked the Chevy Traverse (a unibody SUV). We'd buy it if it had sliding doors. I hadn't driven a GM that wasn't a rental car or a Corvette in years so I was really surprised at how well done it was.
And in other news my wife surprised me this am early for my birthday with what I'm writing on now:

iPad? Sweet!!
Yep. :)
*Plans Romanian commando mission to hijack the ipad...*
Now if only I had the money, or needed one....*whistles innocently*
Hey, Guinness, I thought you hated Macs a while back...
No doubt you want to try and blend it as well. :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAl28d6tbko
Nope. I hate PHP. ;D
I'm actually a UNIX guy, so modern macs are a short leap. Long ago I was a Mac guy (around system 7 days).
I have a love hate relationship with windows.
Thinking an iPad SPringSharp port might be a worthwhile project....

I think he already did once.
And he can do it again...hmm, since SS3 hasn't released a beta in two years...... ;D
