(part one)
***
9 July
As the first part of the "Legion Kondor" approaches its destination in Central America, there have been some indications that the dastardly French, patrons of the heathen Anahuac, are unhappy with the situation.
No-one will speak on the record, however word on the street is that the Frogs have sent word through the diplomatic offices in Siam (ooc: which serves as the intermediary between France and the DKB, as they have no direct diplomatic relations for obvious reasons) that the are "most displeased" with this "interfearance with a dispute that does not involve [the DKB]".
14 July
There has been another incident in the formerly-French territories in Australia. Supposedly Governor Schnee himself was shot at yesterday by "Franco-symphatetic irregulars" in the hinterlands of the colony.
When will our Government send additional forces to the colony? Only one corps of infantry has been assigned to the entire colony which is larger than Brandenburg proper itself! Must there be some sort of massacre before the Heer can do what it must to ensure security?
18 July
The liner Deutschland today departed Brandenburg carrying the second and final section of the "Legion Kondor" mercenary corps for combat against the evil Anahuac.
Unlike the first group which departed some time ago, this time the LK is not traveling alone: the light cruiser Nymphe has been assigned to escort Deutschland, as there is some concern that France, which has expressed "concern" about the LK, might attempt to, in the words of one of Nymphe's sailors, "try something".
Government officials were quick to deny that the escort is an indication of "official sanction" to the LK, but is instead provided "to protect the rights of the merchant shipping of the Reich to make use of the freedom of the seas".
Due to the shorter range of Nymphe as opposed to the liner, the Admiralstab has reportedly contracted with the Associacao Comercial do Mundo to provide a collier at two, undisclosed locations along her sailing track. This has, reportedly, caused some concern in the Reichstag, as so far the DKB has not found itself as deeply in debt to the ACM as some other nations...
27 July
Today it was announced that the DKB has staked a further claim in Afrika, in the formerly-"terra incognita" in the south-central part of the continent.
A government spokesman said that "there have been some discussions between the Reich and the other nations with interests in south Afrika about dividing up the previously unclaimed area in the centre of the southern part of the continent. However for various reasons no conclusive conclusion was ever reached. Therefore we have decided that instead of waiting for those charged with making decisions to decide to reach a decision about the matter we have gone ahead and annexed that area that, in the preliminary discussions in which the matter was discussed, had been preliminarily assigned to the Reich in the preliminary planning for the dividing up of the previously undivided areas."*
to be continued...

The Gazette has been fortunate to acquire a copy of the "message" sent by the dastardly French to our fine country via the good offices of Siam. Read it and weep!
QUOTE
"...it is known that misguided young men in your country want to disrupt the situation between Rohan and the Anahuac Empire. We of France must insist on a total neutrality in this conflict, so we ask you to better inform your rash young men, that they will understand the importance of insight and values at home."
And so the Frogs think that the people of the Reich fail to understand family values (while they, of course, do)? And that if our people wish to fight against the forces of Evil then we should restrain them from doing so like a parent chastising their child?

Yes, that's a great pity that we don't have a player for the France.
The DKB press and authorities, it seems, imagine themeselves a some kind of glorious Greek Heroes which alone can argue, insist and fight a Giant, which France are.
To my mind you need to be more polite to France. And it doesn't mean that you should listen to her wishes. Just be more polite to Giant. And you'll get what you want wink.gif

(OOC: Well the Germans have a lot to prove in this reality. They'll lost two wars to the French in the last 30 years, and been forced into exile in the Pacific colonies. So the youth of the Reich would feel they have something to prove that their father and grandfather's couldn't do in the 1870s.)

Yes, I understand, that the Young DKB wants to prove something. But where is diplomacy, intelligence and foresight

The Reich itself probably does have these (in some degree), but the newspaper editor doesn't. I've several newspapers, just to be sure that no-one thinks my news cuttings are the official line...

Indeed, the newsmen of the Brandenburg Gazette are fire-eating he-men who can vanquish giant Frogs in a single swat.

(While the Government's current line is somewhat more moderate than that expressed in the 'yellow pages', do keep in mind that when the current Kaiser kicks the bucket, his sucessor will be...KWII...)

The stay of the cruiser Fürst Bismarck at Pitcairn Island has come to an end. The ship, deployed there last year at the start of the Anahuac-Rohan War, has been ordered to return to Brandenburg.

The 'bill' from the ACM for coaling the cruiser Nymphe, currently crossing the Pacific, has arrived, and has caused great consternation in the Admiralstab. While it will be paid, Großadmiral Letters was overhead muttering about 'highway robbery'...

There is an unconfirmed report that the Panzerkreuzer Fürst Bismarck has been engaged in a firefight with an unidentified ship while returning from the Pitcairn Islands. More details to follow...
