Hi,
I'm new, and looking for a nation to play - Borys mentioned the Indias (muslim and hindu) are still free.
I'd be interested in taking over - first one, then the other ;-)
My preference would be the Mughal empire, but I'm open for other suggestions.
Both are open, and generally blank slates - though some folks have put forward some suggestions for them.
Alternately, you could consider Mesoamerica (which has some backstory), the Ottoman Empire (which is now needing to rebuild after the just-fought Balkan War), or the Muslim state of Firanj in western Australia.
We had a prospective player for half of a split-up China, but that process got stalled by the war and we may have lost him.
Romania? ;)
*should not be take too serious...
Mesoamerica, Ottoman Empire and Firanj I think at this point will all be roughly the same economy, perhaps the Ottoman Empire will be weaker because of lost territory from the war. The other two would be able the same and allow some major construction. The Mughals are a light weight and would be pressed to build a single small cruiser, but they could do other things on land.
Michael
Take half of China (mass back story and a ton of prebuilt ships) I could use an arch enemy (you get to hate the devil swiss automaticly)
If the Mughals are that weak, they are out :-)
What could I expect (resourcewise, approximately) with China, what with Mesoamerica ?
I'll refer you to this thread:

...for a sense of national economies.
A China fragment would be approximately half of the existing total.
The Mughals are BP-poor, but have a decent-sized economy; they could work on building up their industrial base and perhaps find foreign builders for whatever fleet they thought necessary.
Welcome aboard Viribus Unitis ;)
Made the right choice
China(?)
Jef ;)
Firanj and either China are pretty good options, being decent middle powers. Note that while one China will hate NS to the core of their bones, the other China could well be an ally. All three nations will have interesting diplomatic 'options'.
I had a look at the resources potentially available in Hindu India (Bharat?), that doesn't look bad.
I'd rather avoid previous history, could lead to confusion. A grand investment program would be needed to build infrastructure, but once that's in place...
Disadvantage is of couse I have some foreigners sitting on the best pieces of land, including the best regions for tea ;-)
I'm sure a lot of other nations would want my $ for delivery of mining equipment and factories ;-)
Bharat has an ally in Russia - which might also be a donor for older battleships.
So Bharat is the uncolored / white part of India?

This just gives you some obvious plot points for future roleplaying...
Part of the white part is Bharat - probably historical-ish borders with Bangladesh/Bengal and Burma. Mughal would be the grey blob centred on historical Pakistan.
You could just call them "Foreign Devils" and use human wave attacks untill international pressure runs them out of your land...

With all of you being the international pressure, I'd have to wait until christmas and easter at on the same day ;-)

nah the human wave atacks were very efective a few years ago
Well, let us know when you're settled on a nation, and I'll start the task of setting you up.
Incidently - "SMS Viribus Unitis" is kinda long - what can we call you in casual conversation?
VU would be fine
I'll take Hindu India - potentially large resource and population base, not surrounded by enemies and didn't step on anyone's toes previously - that will be my job :-)
Thank you

Yay!
Good choice
Jef ;)
Welcome to the Pacific (home of almost every war in Nverse History)
"So let it be done."
The encyclopedia area is set up for you. We'll have starting tech, economy, infrastructure, and military forces to you in a day or so.
If anybody's given or sold stuff to Bharat, kindly advise VU and the Mods. It won't count against his starting totals, but he'll probably want to know about it.

Welcome! :)
Just a small piece of advice (and this goes for all new players): do not sign the first thing someone offers you. There seems like it is a tendency here for people to jump on new players with alliance offers and friendship treaties before the player in question really know what it is they are getting into.
So my advice to any new player is: Do not sign the first thing someone offers you, at least not without talking to other people in the region first. Because they might offer you a better deal as well as perhaps take offence by other things and connections. If taking sides, it should be by choice, not by accident.

It is much more status to shoot elephants while riding the tiger, at least as long as one do not spill the tea. ;)
Thats good advice... where has that been happening if I may ask? I don't always pay close attention to whats going on in the game.

Bharat has the treaty with Russia, concerning the lease of Coondapoor (Kondapura?).
http://www.navalism.org/index.php?topic=1192.0
1. Bharat transfers soveirnigty and usu fructu of Town of Kundapura and District (15 km radius) to Russian Empire for a period of 99 years;
2. Russia is free to develop and use said Territory as she sees fit, for civilian or military purposes, with any international obligations or other entanglements affecting Russia and the Territory not having any bearing on the position of Bharat;
3. the semi-annual fee for the territory is 1$;
4. the lease is conditional upon Russia investing 10$ per annum (in two tranches) into the Bharat economy. Any profts from this investment will be shared by the two Contracting Powers;
5. In Court cases involving Residents of the Territory, the Judiciary Power will depend on the Nationality of the two Parties; in mixed cases the Body of Law to be used will be one with more severe punishment for the Defendant;
