It's a good general purpose ship.  I'd worry that it's too slow to escape other cruisers, too lightly armored to withstand 155mm+ shell fire, and too lightly armed to seriously duel most of the cruisers running around.

Good for colonial station use though.

Byzantium has 27kts cruisers and AGBs in these colonies.
-24 cruisers from 4750t to 6750t with 191mm guns.
-6 cruisers from 7450t to 13000t with 234 & 254mm guns.
-14 x 3000t Armored Gun Boat with 152 & 191mm guns.
Class C16 would be assigned to colonies as well.
27kts speed and improved shielding would be better suited to working with these "buddies".

Of the three, I think the panzerschiff is the best-balanced.  The 9- and 12-gun ships seem under-armored and too slow to work cruiser roles.

This is also my preference. I love the Panzerschiff style.

The Panzerschiffe is going to have the right amount of armor to fight in its class against the other ships with 9-11in guns running around.  The 12in gun has the punch.  That being said, if you're trying to kill cruisers, for the weight the 12 gun design is probably best.  Or make the 9 gun design just a little heavier and buff its armor to over 6in.

I look at your designs and see how inefficient mine are.....for the record.

I am actually planning the 4T3x234 on the 15000t Panzerschiff hull.
4T3x234 shells are lighter but the quantity of shells fired is triple than 2T3x305. The probability of hitting is therefore higher.

I will say that older designs are not as good as today's.

Yep, that's what I'd do.  6in is marginal when facing down 9 and 10in guns, but you can't get more belt without more tonnage.

Definitely proof against anything smaller though, comfortably so.   And not only do you have twice the guns, they individually have a faster rate of fire than a 12in gun.

Only thing it'll struggle with is the rare older battlecruiser like mine with 8x11im and the armor to tank 9in shells.

It is not surprising that a 15000t is sunk by a 26000t.

Quote from: TacCovert4 on March 25, 2024, 05:27:42 PMOnly thing it'll struggle with is the rare older battlecruiser like mine with 8x11im and the armor to tank 9in shells.

That would be the Japanese fleet.

The Parthians do not have anything like that,  we just have 8 ACs with 8x255/47 guns and 195-200mm belt armor. The more recent Zemekas are slightly faster at 31knots... I guess the two Dahae could be called 'battlecruiser' but we prefer 'heavy armored cruiser'.

The NPCs are sadly undeveloped.

The machine guns would be problematic under international law (at least as we know it).

Eh, I don't think so.  Given they're only capable of self defense against aircraft attack or direct boarding, they're basically useless in combat.   Kind of like the usns mercy can house a phalanx mount.

Unlike the 130mm guns on the Aztec royal yacht that can be a hospital ship....but the Aztecs are under no false impression that the mayans would respect am unarmed hospital ship

The presumption is that history flowed similar in N7 to the 'Real World' and so our nations would have signed the treaties the 'Real World' nations did.

So the 1907 Hague convention governing Hospital ships should be in effect.
Finding the actual language prooved more difficult than expected, but wiki's summary works.

"The ship must not be used for any military purpose, or interfere with or hamper enemy combatant vessels."

I would not think those guns a threat to violate that provision.

You can not add the Torpedo bulkheads under Refurbishment
"New armor decks, external belts, and external bulges for torpedo defense (not "torpedo bulkheads") can be added.  Existing armor decks, external belts, or weapon armor can be replaced or removed (not increased)*. "
*torpedo bulkheads not included there.

Under Reconstruction, which has different pricing, which specifically includes moving around internal ship bulkheads you can.

"Internal belts can be replaced or removed.  Torpedo Bulkheads can be added."

You could but why not just give the destroyers new DP guns as well?

QuoteYou could but why not just give the destroyers new DP guns as well?

It bothers me to throw 24 T2x120s from 1926 (0.48 BP) in the trash.
It's just a project, I'll test it with desT2x114DP.

Done 1730t with 3T2x114DP mlle 1932 => cost 1.73$ & 1.73BP

(cost with 3T2x120 mlle 1926 => 1.64$ & 1,64BP)

I will try to replace 4x1x102 on the D8 - 1913-1914 - 1000t by the M2x120 mlle 1926 available... (?)

24 T2x120/45 mlle 1926 from C11 are installed on 12 x D8 destroyers from 1913-1915.
These 1000t destroyers require reconstruction (which I rarely do).

This reconstruction will give Byzantium 25 divisions with 4 destroyers (100DDs from 1000t to 1700t) with a homogeneous armament of 120mm guns. 9 divisions use 533TT. 16 divisions use 533TT HW.

Next class use 114/45DP.

The D15 destroyer is interesting, I took a long time to develop my Sher
which is similar, but a little larger, as I shipped more fuel.

Large torpedo array, but
I noted that it only has Sonar.

Sonar is relatively short range, directional and make active pings.
The Enhanced hydrophones give passive results over a larger distance.

I would suggest both be fitted.

Quote from: Jefgte on May 01, 2024, 01:15:49 AMThe Marmara Fleet (Home Fleet) has 52DD (13x4) from 1500t to 1700t.
I am also working on a 1000t/1200t colonial DD.

The Parthian fleet destroyers are all smaller at 1140-1500 tons.
I deliberately continued the smaller sizes to be able to field
the number of platforms I needed. While my Home fleet has fewer Destroyers
assigned than yours, if reinforced by the Expeditionary fleet, there are more,
if individually less capable.

While in 1932 I am building the 1st of the Sher 2000t class
I am also continuing construction of the older 1140t Vakharz class.
It's a balanced design that does the roles well. That may eventually
become the territorial DD, or I may build a new one.

The 50% rule on machinery makes me not want to update it, as I will
need a higher speed for the same machinery weight, which will mean more
seakeeping, which means more hull structure, leaving less weight for
equipment. So I keep building the 1926 class.
