The previous 500t is too small and too slow.
This one of 1000t is more serious and has the same speed as the colonial cruisers. Good defender and good escort ship.

I like it better, yes.

Is a long-range wireless a good investment on a ship of this size?

Is a long-range wireless a good investment on a ship of this size?

I generally haven't been putting it on the littoral forces.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

For carrying out colony patrols or isolated operations or escort in colonies, that's better.

The question I ask myself is if the Colonies have radios (IC) of their own, and if I expect the ships to be more than 100nm out to sea.
However, it's not a huge weight in either case.

QuoteThe question I ask myself is if the Colonies have radios (IC) of their own, and if I expect the ships to be more than 100nm out to sea...

The main bases have radios and are on call 24 hours a day.
Thus, if a Parthian cruiser is seen off Kismayo (Somalia), the TGB on patrol will report it.
His radio call will be received in Aden and Diego Suarez.

..

Yes but, it degrades the stability of ships.

You've got to use electric drive to go from Triple Expansion to Turbine.
That's under Ship Design :
QuoteIf a refurbishment or reconstruction changes the type of engine (eg VTE to Turbine), then Electric drives must be used. This is due to the change in shaft runs between various engine types.

QuoteEngines and Drive Shafts

The engine year of a ship will be equivalent to the laydown year of that ship or the year in which either a refurbishment or reconstruction has taken place and engine upgrades have been paid for.

Drive Shafts have some special benefits and drawbacks.
Direct Drives: No bonus or penalty
Electric Drives: Take an additional 25% of engine weight in misc weight and provides a 15% bonus to range plus improved compartmentalization (effects number of torpedo hits to sink)
Hydraulic Drives: Takes an additional 10% of engine weight in misc weight and provides a 5% bonus to range.
Geared Drives: Provides a 10% bonus to range.
Diesel Engines: Diesel engines can be used as part of mixed drive units or standalone power. Takes an additional 30% of engine weight in misc weight and provides a 75% bonus to range. Can be combined with Electric, Hydraulic or Geared drives (Bonus and penalties stack).

If a refurbishment or reconstruction changes the type of engine (eg VTE to Turbine), then Electric drives must be used. This is due to the change in shaft runs between various engine types.

That 261 ton engine would need 65.25 tons of turbogenerators in Hull Below Water to provide the electric drive.

This also makes me concerned about other old ships you've refitted, did they follow this ?
