Ok, second attempt at a destroyer- now with hoists! Compared to it's predecessor it has a big increase in tonnage and has lost the turret amidships- the 4 remaining guns should however have a quicker and more sustainable rate of fire over long periods. Bit swifter overall & slightly longer ranged, increased torpedo and AA armament and has extra utility in the form of hydrophones and depth charges, making a more well rounded fleet escort destroyer I think? Downsides include no longer fitting neatly into a 100m dock and just generally being a much bigger and expensive beast, and probably some others I haven't noticed!

Pretty sturdy.  Are the 3" guns intended to be anti-surface or AA?

TacCovert4

Yeah, not bad.

The hoist vs no hoist debate is basically never ending for the 4in through 5in guns prior to the 30s.   I've mostly gone without on destroyers and cruiser secondary guns, favoring more mounts instead.   But then I don't necessarily expect destroyers in the sort of knife fighting that defines the Caribbean to survive much longer than their ready racks without a break in the action to refill them.   And my cruisers I expect to be set upon in a close and fast action,  again where it's likely over in minutes and having those extra guns to pour out fire Short term is vital to surviving.

The Rock Doctor

I've gone with hoists for anything over 100mm in this iteration of the sim.

TacCovert4

Really makes sense for you, the Union is a top shelf technology and industrial power.

I've sort of aimed 'cheap and cheerful' in a lot of ways because the Sultanate is supposed to be a struggling up-and-coming power.

Hence 5in singles and everything below them (except the new 30mm AA guns ironically) are plain deck mounts.  And the 180mm twin mount is a mount and hoist rather than a turret, sort of the ragged edge of what can be done with that arrangement.

Yeah, I have it easier currently in that I can spit out designs that don't have to really fit into any exacting operational requirements or what have you, it's interesting to see the different thought processes that come about from each nation's unique situation though!

Amended the DD design, fixed the length to beam ratio and made the secondary guns into AA guns (as was originally intended, but missed by me!) - I've reduced the calibre of the AA guns down to 40mm but made the centreline AA mount into a twin instead of a single.

Relatively quick and easy one today, working my way up through cruisers. A minelaying cruiser- big enough guns to deter or destroy lighter craft, and enough speed to hopefully avoid heavier contact... Possibly has some utility as a raider too.
