So these are two versions of the same map.
Direct links in the text, both maps after.

Nations Map, end of HY1, 1912
One shows Nations as solid colors like we are used to, and the Prime (green) and Harsh (brown) lands, and the Port Symbols.
...
But in order to figure out what types of lands your Colonial Regions have, you then have to go to the Arability Map.
Which I could see being possibly annoying.

Colonial resources Map, end of HY1, 1912
So I tried a Nation map...but with your undeveloped colonies as Crosshatches.
Iberia and Japan can be hard to see- but you can see them
Islands were tough...so I wound up drawing boxes around them in the owner's color.

I think...think... that as we add colonies it will be simple to keep both up to date.

problem : I have noticed that when I change from one National color to another color, if I have not hit <return> then it changes the last line I colored. That explains some of the mixups in the past. Now that I am aware, I will try to avoid that in the future.

If folks are good with the maps, I'll go around and add the resource points that have been discovered, Rich and Poor.

I am open for suggestions on a better way of doing the second map.  Or the first.

Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

Are the maps small or am I doing something wrong?

Kaiser Kirk

Usually it's best to assume I'm the one that made the error :)

The maps that come up in the post are about 2/3 the width of the screen.

If you click on them or the direct link,
you get a postimage page with a map.
You can either click it and it gets bigger,
or download it- in which case you can really zoom in and look around.

I think I need to spend some time with experimenting on how to best post these things,
right now I'm settling for "you can get it".

SUM UP :
Click on direct link
Click on "Download original image"
Then zoom in and pan around.

Thanks for being the Alpha tester Rocky!

I added both charts to my reactivated "navalism" map.

The only thing I again ask, is a legend.

There are 2 colors green on the Inca Borders. One is the known Vilnius Union. The other?  The demons of the Green Hell?

The Rock Doctor

OMG Mario you can't just be calling Iberians that.

The Rock Doctor

I still get a map that is pretty small and pixallated at any kind of zoom, so not sure why that is.

Also, Tierra del Fuego is not in its delightful Union green colors.

maddox

OOPS.   And just now the Inca are learning the idea of Embassies....

Rocky,  I just downloaded the maps from the links provided.  Opening those downloaded png files with any kind of picture viewer will give you a rather detailed look on the world.

Also, any border, internal or between Nverse countries will correspond with the borders you can find on Google maps.

Providing a Legend is on the 'after the maps are done' list - perhaps not the best order.

Dark Green is Vilunus
Yellow-Green is Iberia
Pale Green is "Prime" arable lands.

If you are getting a small map, you need to use the direct link to download.
One of the maps shows Tierra del Fuego in delightful Green colors.
The other shows it as a orange-brown with delightful Green crosshatch...which when zoomed out is not evident.

I am trying to figure out a useful way of portraying things.

Reading more on Patagonia, I should have extended the orange-brown further north to account for the Patagonia desert between Tierra del Fuego and Coranado(?). But that's average.
But I'm not fiddling with the arability aspects further.

The approach explained through PM worked well, thanks.

I'm just sorry it's not more straightforward.

So this is the last Draft map product.

Disclaimer ; Well, it was going to be..Postimage seems to be down for maintenance.

what was meant to be here :

This is the Resource Points revealed by Colonial Claims.

So, generally I make my maps, look them over, adjust the symbol set, then when that's all done - I make the Legend.

The Crosshatching seems adequate.

So the next step is displaying resource points.

This uses the Red Dot for "Poor" and the Golden Square for "Rich"
I really considered Pink Square for "Rich" ...I think it will stand out better.

Resource Points...what are they ?
The base map is a very general Atlas illustration from..I think 1954.
I have put the points in the general area of the map.
Which generally means mountains...not always.

Rich :
They are meant to be major mineral sites, oil, coal, etc.

Which means the mining and smelting technology/ accessibility / economic return, would be similar to our time period.

I have augmented this by looking up some goldstrikes and national data .

Poor
This was somewhat a judgement call on my part.
Areas of the world which are still sparsely inhabited, who's economy is grazing or worse, swamp, deep jungle, annual floods, extremely short growing season, very hot/cold.  Etc.
In many cases it doubles up the "Harsh".

Hint : Greenland has not turned out a good place to invest.

Ascension island is Parthia's.  It has no real natural resources. It's inhabitants tend to be related to the military bases. It's hot, barely rains. ...so I gave myself Barren with Poor.
Tarakan and that part of Borneo is Parthia's.  It has oil that started being extracted in the 1890s and needed little refining. The IJN burned it as bunker fuel in WW2 with no refining, though that did cause some damage it was possible. That gets a Rich.

Well bummer.
I tried to attach the map to a new post before I went to work.
But now that I'm at work, I don't see that post.
Curious.
