Thanks to a willingness to insert themselves into other people's business, the Vilnius Union has several overseas possessions.

Azores

Snatched in the very first days of the Great Expansion from under the not-so-watchful eyes of Iberia, the Azores were nabbed to permit the establishment of an eastern Atlantic coaling station.  Limited agriculture and fishing also takes place on and around the islands, but did not factor into the Union's annexation.

The population are mostly former Iberians and Berbers, now under the administration of a governor answering directly to the Union government.

Also nabbed for its potential as an Atlantic coaling station, Bermuda possesses just enough agricultural and salt-producing opportunities to make it of marginal interest to Union business interests.

With a population drawn mainly from ex-American exiles, the territory was ruled by a self-proclaimed king who agreed to a new position as governor under the guns of an armored cruiser.

Centred around the former Powhatan Confederacy, the area came under Union control when the Union stepped in to squelch a budding power struggle between the Confederacy's three major sub-groups:  the Nanticoke, Pamlico, and of course the Powhatan peoples.  Operating out of established trading missions, the Union installed a governing council representing all the major groups on a per-capita basis and which answers directly to the Union's king. While the locals were not uniformly enthused about this development, a robust carrot and stick approach was applied from the outset and generally kept things on track.

Complicating matters, however, was the decision of an alliance of Erikan kingdoms to try evicting the Union from the continent, lest the Union look to expand.  Commencing in mid-1910, this joint offensive lack the coordination, numbers, and technology to defeat the Union, which held off and then overran some territory belonging to the Eries; made gains into the Tutelo Kingdom; utterly defeated the Tuscarora Kingdom, and blitzed the coast of the Catawba Confederacy.  Consequently, the exact thing the alliance had hoped to prevent has instead come to pass, and it is not clear at all that the Union is going to stop at the present frontlines.

Ironically, the war has somewhat placated former Powhatan citizens, who are not adverse to helping conquer their former geographic rivals.

Economically, the coast boasts fertile agricultural lands, the world class harbor at Nieupoort on the Chesepiocc Estuary, and the promise of substantial coal reserves further inland.  The area is likely to see some degree of immigration from the Union itself on account of the pleasant climate and general lack of malaria.

The area has since expanded considerable to the west and south.

OOC:  This is about half of the historical population of the land in question, as I'm assuming mass immigration is only just starting.

The Union's island and continental assets around the Caribbean are governed from Johannestadt (OTL San Juan, Puerto Rico).  The area was previous split between island possessions (Boriken) and continental possessions (Choco, governed from Pisisi) but were merged at the direction of the Prime Minister.

Settlement in the area initially focused on possible sites to build a sea-level canal, culminating in the construction of the Trans-Erica between 1914 and 1919.  Subsequent oil discoveries on the mainland, and fertile cash crop lands on the islands, have also spurred development.

Issues in the region include malaria in the coastal lowlands of the continent and difficult relations with local Mayan and Incan governments.  Hurricanes, earthquakes, and volcanism can also be problems from time to time.  Nascent Taino nationalism in the islands is becoming noticeable although the activists remain somewhat divided based on previous local loyalties.

Population:  ~9.4 million (6.8 m on the mainland, 2.6 m on the islands)
Administrative Centre:  Johannestadt (OTL San Juan)
Area:  Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, northern Lesser Antilles, parts of Panama, Colombia, Venezuela

Acquired as a coaling station on the northeastern coast of South Erika, the Shrimp Land also possesses several interesting crops, such as cashews and sugarcane, and sandalwood.  On the other hand, the local people, known as Shrimp Eaters, are quite hostile to the Union and have lost a number of brave but poorly equipped warriors in several assaults on the fortified port of Gustavholm, on the Shrimp River, and malaria is endemic.

While the site is of immediate value to Union shipping, the long term prospects likely depend on the flow of trade at such time as a trans-Erikan canal might be built.  Nonetheless, the Union engaged in some further land grabbing to the northwest and south of the original colony.  Given the rather unappealing implications of "Shrimp River", the region was renamed "Parakeet Coast" at the end of 1913.

As the Union expanded around the South Erikan coast, a natural location for a coaling station was the trading post and mission at Widoknagory (a corruption of the Polish "Mountain View").  Apart from having an excellent natural harbor, the local Charrua people had been converted en masse to Catholicism and were quite keen to come under Union protection.  With a pleasant climate and fertile land, it is likely that the region might see Union immigration before too long.

Orimirilandia

The Orimiri (OTL Niger) River is one of the largest in Africa and an important link to inland trading routes.  The river's fertile delta and tropical climate initially drew the interest of the Union's food industry, which convinced the Union to undertake "The Big Lift", a landing of ten brigades across a broad swath of the central African coast, in 1912.  More recently, the discovery of oil in the delta has led to a new rush for black gold and the prospect of conflict between oil men and plantation owners.

Industrialization has been fast and furious, though.
