Sure you can have enclosed mount and hoist guns.  The difference is weight: turret on barbette is heavier, but it can also scale up to larger weapons. The biggest mount & hoist mounts I can think are the twin 6" mounts on the USS Omahas.

I guess I mean more along the lines of what is the difference in layout. I've seen some secondary mount diagrams where it appears they use shell and powder rooms like the bigger guns, while others seem to store the shells in a carousel similar to modern autoloader tanks (perhaps they are modern autoloading naval cannons).

Also, what does beam between bulkheads mean? I think I know what it means, but it doesn't explain why you can have numbers that don't evenly divide into a beam. For example, a 50 foot beam separation on a ship with a 100 foot beam would seem to imply two outer bulkheads, but I can actually set a 60 foot beam between bulkheads. You can't set a 100 foot beam bulkhead though, so I don't know how the World War I style bulkheads that simply ran down the middle of a ship are handled.

Turret - There is always a controversy about whether a particular rotating enclosed gun emplacement should be called a "Turret" or a "Mount."  In the USN, the difference between a turret and a mount is that a "Turret" is built into the ship, has a stalk that extends well below the weather deck and includes a barbette, while a "Mount" is not part of the ship's structure and does not include a barbette.  As a general rule, 5 inch (12.7 cm) and smaller guns are in "Mounts" while 6 inch (15.2 cm) and larger guns are in "Turrets."  Other navies had similar distinctions.

It basically means the distance between the torpedo bulkheads, if any.  A pre-WWI ship with a single lengthwise bulkhead would, for SS3, have it's "beam between bulkeads" set to the full beam width (and it's bulkhead type set to strengthened and the thickness to 0 since this feature doesn't work in SS3b3).

It's basically the space that remains for your engine and magazines.

Examples:
Bismarck, had a 6 m wide torpedo protection system. So, from her 36 m width, 24 m between those bulkhead remained for the engine.
Hood. You have tho deduct the torpedo bulges. 31.7 minus 2x3.05 is 25.6 between bulkheads.

Delta Force

I've decided to give the battlecruiser and cruiser killer concepts the same powerplants to simplify logistics and training. Since the 200,000 horsepower ships are faster than anything else afloat even in tropical conditions, I'm going to look into less powerful engines to help save money. It's unnecessary to have capital ships that can realistically outrun a destroyer or light cruiser.

The French 330 mm Model 1931 actually had very high armor penetration for its size and a rather flat trajectory, so it's closer to an oversized 11 inch gun in performance. Deck penetration isn't the best though. As for the armor box, I thought that was for the all or nothing armor scheme?

I believe it's what some destroyers in the 1940s had. It means that some, probably internal walls, around engine rooms and magazines are slightly armored, but nothing else.
