Cromwell, November 3rd, 5 O'Clock

Two figures silently observed the harbor. Particular attention was given to any new ships.

"There do you see it?" One of them finally spoke.

"No where is it?"

"Here take a look, can you see it? Black funnel with a white Z, she's flying a CSA flag."

"Ah yes, right on time."

The two men quickly picked up their stuff and walked away, their job was done.

Cromwell, November 3rd, Midnight

To the men of the 2nd Special Weapons Squad, the ringing of the bell at midnight signaled the begining of an interesting night.

"Fire!"

The 90mm mortar marked once sending a shell towards the harbor district.

"Over, drop 50 fire for effect!"

The mortar shells began striking the warehouses lining the harbor, pretty soon one found its target. Coal dust was very explosive, this became apperant as a fireball rose over the harbor.

"Cease fire, our mission is accomplished, lets get out of here."

***

On the other side of town another squad watched the explosion.

"Load starshell, fire!"

A single green flare elight the night sky, signaling the begining of Operation Walk the Dog...

Across the town three more mortar teams opened fire. Firefights among different factions had already broken out in Cromwell, the mortar shells added a new dimension. The news of Montego Bay had already reached Cromwell, the mortars "confirmed" them. Chaos broke out among the city.

Seargent Schlock observed the pair of IC Marines guarding the Admirality House. Their nerves on edge by the news, they had been shaken by the explosion. His finger thighten on the trigger.

Puff

With the explosions of mortars in the distance and the quietness of the Air Gun, the second guard never noticed the fall of his companion. That would be his undoing.

Suddenly soldiers, some of them wearing the uniform of IC Marines, stormed into the building...

Just to check.

Your marine commandos had to leave Hawaii/Australia in Early September to get there in time.

Edit:

Foxy, I've already posted news that has seen Cromwell occupied by Gran Colombia on 4 November. If you intend to have this item occur on 3 November, then the operation has to be promptly concluded or our troops are going to collide retro-actively.

The GC Armada might happen to see a CSA flagged merchant, with a White Z on a Black Funnel, sailing somewhere outside Cromwell...

Then there would seem to be little GC will be able to do about it, barring later discoveries that might incriminate NS.

Luitenant Bond quickly followed the commandoes into the building. Surprise had been complete and most of the building was still intact.

"Quickly gather up all technical documents or anything labeled top secret. We have one hour." There where certain documents that Bond was after, those he would get himself.

Quickly and methodicly the commandoes gathered all documents, within 45 minutes they where finished. Nonesential documents where set on fire and in minutes the building was in flames. To all apparent purposes thee building had been destroyed in street fighting.

Cromwell Harbor, November 4th, 4 O'Clock

"Is that everyone?"

"Yes sir everyone is accounted for."

"Very well cast off, we must leave before the Columbians arrive."

Slowly and silently a non descript freighter with a White Z on a Black Funnel picked its way out of the harbor. The NSS Ulysses was leaving the warzone.

The mortar they are using looks like this:

This:
http://riv.co.nz/rnza/hist/mortar/mort7.htm

has not yet been invented, and in N-verse might never will.
