All three of the member nations of the Bakufu use native, rather than global, calendars and dating. In Ezochi's case, this calendar dates from the founding of the ruling dynasty in 1570 A.D., but Japan and the Ryukyus both rely on regnal calendar systems which reset with every new king. While the Ryukyuan calendar is rarely of relevance outside the islands themselves, the Japanese system is of significance in that it is intimately involved with the 'Systematic' nomenclature of the Shogunate's logistical and technical branches.

As of 1880, Japan is in the 12th year of the Houreki Era. The previous era, from 1860 to 1868, was the Keiou Era.
