Because everybody needs a mad New Zealander running a major second-rank world power.

Rather than resurrect the immensity of Logi's old mailbox, I'd rather start one from scratch.

China is open for business, and happy to listen to any offer - or indeed, to merely sit with a beer and watch the sun rise from the pacific. The peoples of all nations are welcome, especially if they need help with toppling Manchurian tyrants, or want some cashew chicken.

So Japan then? the RRC must love picking fights out of its weight class (navy wise that is)  ;D

Do I interpret that as the Manchu asking for help going back to their own country, instead of trying to rule ours?

well japan controls Manchuria ATM, nothing to do with me (aside from a little bit of land leading to and around Dailan IIRC). or do you mean Manchu as the MK?

The Emperor is a Manchu. To Republican journalists, most of whom are based in Guangzhou and Shanghai, and have never met either a Manchu or a Manchurian, the difference is fairly unimportant. More importantly, when presented in an oversimplified fashion, it makes good propaganda - much as one can find French ultranationalist groups suggesting "repatriating" their president to Hungary, or Americans suggesting theirs return to Kenya.

Nope, the Emperor is descended from one of the older Chinese dynasties...sorry...

Laertes

Alas. I thought it was quite a nice IC piece of propaganda. Ah well, back to the drawing board.

Well according to who the father and mother of the Emperor Kaili is (both Manchurians ethnically), the Emperor is Manchurian despite what seems to be a still Ming Dynasty name.

Not knowing this the Ming general Wu San-kuei invited the Manchu warlords to help eliminate the rebels. After driving the rebels from the capital the Manchus wanted to establish their own dynasty but were repelled a few years later by the emergence of the Empress Meifeng who commanded the loyalty of both army and people. The Manchus were driven back to their lands beyond the Great Wall and left there to their devices. The Empress had an empire to rebuild and a dynasty to arrange.

...which was Phoenix's point of departure, and explains why she had a matriarchal Empire run by Confuscian (and thus patriarchal) values. I remember now.

But that does not change the fact that Longyu and Guangxu were Manchu's ethnically, which leads to the deduction that Kaili must be ethnically Manchu as well.

Keyword is ethnically.

In other words the Manchus have infiltrated the Ming Dynasty and taken it over from within! ;D

Laertes

China does not discriminate against people on the basis of ethnicity. Back in the old Confucian days, perhaps. Nowadays, we (or at least the portions of the country not occupied by Imperial forces) have no quarrel with Manchurians, Mongols, Tibetans, Japanese, Swiss or indeed anyone else.

If a Manchurian wants to be Emperor, he can be, just as if a Han wanted to be. Of course, both deserve death for proclaiming themselves Emperor. But that's not a racial issue.

Walter

Probably deserve it as much as the traitors in the South. :D
Long live the Qin Dynasty! ;D
