What is wrong with this picture?

New York Harbor is WRONG.
New York Skyline 1940 is WRONG.
Admiral Hipper is WRONG.
Heinkels are WRONG.

What else? Who created that?

I don't see any Hipper.  I see Bismark or Tirpitz.

And yes, the German planes shown don't have the range to get to New York , not even starting from the most western point of the UK or Ireland.

In any case, there is nothing wrong with the picture. It's an artists impression of an alternative history event.

well said event never historically happened. didnt mean the pic was flawed in some way.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is where this is from.

We could imagine too a picture with...

Japanese Fleet in San Francisco Bay with the Gloden Gate down.

On the picture, Yamato & Musashi - San Francisco burning in the back.

Jef  ;)

We could immagine the Japanese following up the Pearl Harbor Attack with a full blown invasion of Oahu as well.... ::) ;D

Of course the inability to support a fleet off the Hawaii for more then a day and to include more ships then then the few involved in the Dec 7th attacks would have logisticaly doomed any such operation.

I found these "IJN in SF bay" AH concept irritatingly stupid.

For non-Americans, almost the whole US West Coast is at least as rugged than the Mediterranean coast between Nice and Genoa, and one needs to cross mountain ranges to get anywhere in any direction.
The bay entrance itself is ridiculously easy to defend - did I mention large-caliber coastal artillery firing from 200m above sea level? With only flattops to provide air support.

Compared to that, the Kriegsmarine in New York harbor scenario is downright realistic.

Not to mention the the Economics of Scale.... Imagine planning to Take San Diego after landing in San Fransisco and realizing my go I will need how much fuel, food, and ammo on my march there....  or Perhaps you want to get to Bremington Naval Base up North.... or heck even Denver.....

California it itslef larger then Japan and I would love to see a Japanese Battle Ship even the Yamato class try to force defenses of San Fransico Bay in the WWII period of say 1943 or latter.  Before that the Minefields would have been a serious problem but yes large caliber hits from 200' above see level would suck.
