Somewhere, in New Swiss controlled territory, not so long ago.

Late afternoon, the sun was on its way to set on the horizon, 2 men observed the movement of people in the direct vicinity of a one store warehouse. Both dressed as the common workers did in those lands. One of them average in height and appearance was called Brains, the other one big and muscular all called Backup.

"You're sure he is held in that warehouse?"Backup asked Brains.

"Yes, I'm certain, I overheard the woman who cooks his meals. Every day, right after sunset she brings them his food and makes sure the boy is fine, that is considering his situation." Brains answered. "He lost some weight, but besides that he acts like a little emperor should: divine stoïc and straightbacked." Brains said with a hint of admiration in the tone of his voice. "The place is guarded by 34 men. There are 3 groups outside, working in teams of 2. 1 group on the roof and 2 patrolling the surrounding perimiter. All guards are armed with those new highpower rifles, carrying sidearms, bayonet, grenades and all of those guards have a whistle, in case of allert. Inside the warehouse there are 5 more groups and 2 officers, all simular armed as the ones outside. At all times there are 4 groups of guards and 1 officer on duty. The rest of them keeps to their quarters in the back. The boy is kept in the supervisors office, with a door locked and 1 team on guard next to it. The other team patrols inside. At irregular intervals the officer checks on the boy and all of the guards on duty. The guards are changed every day at 1:00, 7:00, 13:00 and 19:00 hours," Brains said, "Inspection of the guard 30 minutes before they go on duty."

"So they know their bussiness." Backup remarked.

"When do we execute this so called resque?" Brains asked.

"Best time is between 4 and 5 in the morning", Backup said. "We go in at 4:45 hours. I'll have 3 septs ready by 4:00, deployment at 4:15, visual contact at 4:30. We take out the guards on the roof and the ones patrolling the grounds simultaniously with our silent weaponery. After the outside is cleared, sept 1 enters the warehouse from the roof and 2 goes in by the side door, here." Backup said while pointing at the rough sketch of he had made in the dirt. "We go in as silent as possible, take out as many guards we can the same way. Once discovered we'll use the noisy stuff and torch the guardquarters with molotovs to raise a panic. We resque the boy and move as fast as possible to our rendevous point. The sept 3 stays outside in reserve and keeps the surroundings and escape route safe. When we're discovered inside the warehouse, they'll use grenades as a diversion. Sept 4 will be guarding the horses at the rendevous point. 2 Septs will stay behind to cover our escape untill dawn, after that they return on their own if possible.
As soon as we have resqued the boy, you take care of him, and get the hell out of that warehouse and move to the rendevous point, we'll follow close behind. When you get there mount up double with the boy and wait for us. If we're not there by 5:30 hours, you ride as fast as you can to the ship. Once there, don't wait on us any longer than 6 hours before you depart, when possible. If the rest hasn't showed up by that time we're on our own."

"Sounds easy enough to me, it'll work," said Brains,"It must, else we can kiss our hides goodbye. I've seen Agrival in a foul mood last we met, Petrov was trying to get out under his orders and was very, very lucky that Agrival took it out on one of his toydolls. Unfortunatly for that one, he had Marissa patch her up. Don't have to tell you what happened later with her, we've all know Marrissa's handy work with a straight razor. No, we must succeed or else we bleed, slowly, very slowly. She knows how to stretch her work for days and loves to do that."

"Hmmm", was all the response Backup gave, a worrying haunted look gliding over his face. After a moment of silence he said: "No use to think on it too long, better not, we have a job to do later on and we must not fail."

After that the men observed the vicinity of the warehouse for a few more moments and left their viewpoint. Back to where the septs waited.

4:00

"Last chance to check your gear, do it now!" Backup ordered in a quiet voice to the 4 groups of 7 men each surrounding him. Soft ruffles of clothing, creaks of leather, clicks and clocks where the only noise in responce. They septs where trained to do there work in silence, and they were good at there job.
Everyone was dressed in a combination of dark greybrown and -green clothing, hiding everything except eyes, mouth and fingers. Soft leather belts, boots and sheats and holsters were dull from the black grease that was used to preserve them, dull because it was just applied, never polished.
Their weaponery was strange combination of crossbows, knives, rifles and handguns. Each of the men checked the weapons he carried with ease, the movements spoke of familiarity with them.
"Be carefull with the cocktails, don't spill any of the contents, they could smell you a mile away" Backup said soft, "You all know what to do, sept 1, 2 and 3 move to the warehouse, sept 4 stays here and guards the rendevous point."

4:15
"Don't make any unnecesary noise and no talking from now on, sept 1 and 2, GO, take your possitions" The septs ordered left quietly, the only sound the made were the quiet steps of soft leather footwear. Within moments the 2 groups of men where gone from sight, the color of their clothing blending in, in the nightly shades of dark.
"Sept 4, guard the perimeter, GO, sept 3, Brains, follow me and deploy according to plan." Silently the group of men blended into the night.

4:25
Invisible for the guards outside the warehouse, the septs took their assigned possitions, and readied their weapons, using small handsigns to communicate and point out the guards. Some of those last were easily seen by the glowing ends of their smokes. The guards who patrolled the vicinity of the announced their were-abouts bij stomping boots and not to quiet, whispered talking. The guards on the roof showed themselves as dark sillouettes against a little paler sky and were heard by the crunshing of the roofing beneat their boots.

4:44
The sidedoor opened, and the bulk of an officer and 2 guards who came out where lit by the light from inside the warehouse. The members of sept 2 tenced, 3 more men to take care of, that made things a bit tricky, 15 guards outside and at least 2 awake in.

4:45
Tuhduhdud, eyes wide the guard stared at the feathered bolts protruding from the chest, troath and neck of the other 3 in his group, falling on the ground. Fumbling to get his whistle out, the ground in front of him came alive with shadows. The last thing he saw was the flicker of a blade, the last he felt was the paralyzing pain of the blade piercing trough his palate straight into his brain.

Another guard turned around as he heard the gurgle his collegue made from a knife sticking out of his troath. It was the last thing he ever did, as he was trown against the roof with, his skull caved in by a rifflebutt. Another was alerted by the soft clink of a grapplinghook sinking in the gutter, as he got his whistle out, his breath was cut of by a garotte from behind. The last guard stood glued with terror on the roof and died quick when is neck broke with a hard twist.

The 2 guards escorting the officer never knew what hit them as trowing daggers hit them in the chest, with the bubbling noise of pierced lungs hel fell facefirst in the dirt, the officer was trown back hard trough the door opening into the warehouse, 3 feathered bolts in his chest and 1 in his eye. Followed by the members of the 2nd sept.

From the other side of the warehouse, opposite of the one with the side door a whistlecall was cut short, by a slashing blade. "Take care of the others sept 3, Brains with me." Backup said soft, whipping the blade clean on the guardscoat. As they both ran around the first corner on their way towards the sidedoor, gunshots could be heard from behind, turning the last corner the open sidedoor came in to view and with it the voiced mayhem of bursting guns, the shifting lights of flaming inferno and screams of men ablaze with fire. Backup dashed, ducked and dived his way in the general direction of the supervisors office, as his vision was blurred with smoke and flashes from muzzles and the occasional exploding grenades. Reaching the office he crashed trough the door and looked around. In the corner left of the door, he spotted the boy emperor, rolled up in a ball and shacking with small hands covering his ears. He tucked up the kid onder an arm and turned back towards the door to escape. Giving himself a short time for catching his breath, he crouched and quickly took in the chaos of battle inside the warehouse. Timing the moment for his sprint, he exploded in action, zig-zagging the distance for the sidedoor. Just as Backup reached the doorway, he felt a push of air from behind, shifting the boyemperor from under his arm to a position in front of him, they were lauched by a shockway, followed by a deafening roar and a blast of scorching flames. Their fleight ended with a crash to the ground, Backup cushonung the impact for the kid by trying to twist his body between the kind and the ground. With ringing ears from the explosion, he checked on the boy emperor, breath than pulse, he was alive, now to get the hell away from here. Stumbling he tried to stand, when a hand touched his arm helping him stand. Looking where the warehouse had been, all that was left of it was the bottom half of the doorway. The helping hand was Brains', "We need to go, hurry." Brains voice said from far of in the distance. One of the sept men came over to help them move and in a haze, Backup got his feet going. Escape was all there was left to do, and so they moved.

How can I tell you that the Emperor has already been returned. I dont have him, so you cant rescue him. Simple as that. Also he was not being hed in a warehouse and he was guarded by more than just 34 guards, and the guards had alot more goodiess.

OOC. Agrival had a lot of communication with me and Phoenix.

Nor Phoenix, nor me had any communication of You, Desertfox, that the little emperor was returned at all. And I have all reasons to believe you didn't.

And you agreed a long time ago, that you had kidnapped the emperor. And that he was in good hands. And you even told the international community this.

PR is your best weapon. USE IT.

The rest are non controlable dicerolls and easely bend rules. You made a fuss about this before.
Some of your "orders" for the new Swiss/Spanish war are even played out by a local roleplay group. And it was looking good.

What I would have done, was to return the emperor as soon as the signature was set under the not so peace pact. And would have done it with fanfares, fireworks, and all the heads of state invited.

In effect, I approve Agrivals story. Even if the warehouse would have been in your biggest army camp, you did the same stunt under even more impossible situations, and only the creativity of the roleplayers over here made it a succes.

New switzerland requests that the meeting and the final signing of the treaty be postponed until January 1st. Bacause no representatives will be available until then and the Senate has yet to vote on the Peace Treaty. Meanwhile NS will be conducting a prisioners exchange with China.

OOC Yes the Emepror will be returned, but the Senate still has to vote on it (Treaty), Im running a republic after all.

I made it quite clear that the Emperor had been returned. The above is in the Conventions in Vienna thread. I did have him, thats true, but I had no reason to keep him any longer. Im not making any fuss, just pointing out that he cant "rescue" the emperor because I simply dont have him.

No exchange has yet happened, otherwise you would have let me know. And you haven't, so everybody assumed that the Emperor was still in New Swiss hands.

Very ambigueous... Hence the problem. dry.gif Putting things in future tense mean they still have to happen unless indicated otherwise.

I mentioned it elsewhere I just dont remember where. There is no valid reason to keep the Emperor. The only reason I didnt actually send a PM or news saying the Emperor has been return at such and such time etc, is becasue I dont have time, I forgot, and I didnt think it important. If this hadnt happened it wouldnt have really mattered. If its ambigious I should have received a PM asking his wereabouts like the one I received about the wereabouts of my Vienna Delegation which has just been kidnnaped.

A HEAD OF STATE not important ??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The boy for whom hundreds of thousands of people died... NOT IMPORTANT ??!!

First, I'm not your nanny. Second, the reason why I didn't inquire was because I have come to expect you stalling such things ad nauseam.

Well to NS a young boy that was returned is not important. It simply would not have mattered when I returned the boy if this had not turned up. Of course the Chinese feel otherwise.

Hmm... dry.gif The Chinese would have been mightily offended. Either way, this surely tells heads of state all they need to know about New Swiss's respect for them. The lack of it surely.

20 oct 1901

Somewhere in the Solomons, a small undefended island in Spanish territory at dusk. Right in the path of the New Swiss fleet occupying Spanish undefended islands.

Sailing under a Spanish flag, a cod-class cruiser and merchant dropped anchor near the island. Boats where launched from the cruiser and were filled to the brim with uniformed men. As soon as the boats where full they rowed towards the little beachside village. As soon as the boats where landed, the uniformed men spread out, securing the village perimeter. They where armed bamboo staves and bull-whips and eager to use them.
The few inhabitants of the village, having courage enough to meet the visitors, were driven back with agressive force from the invaders. The rest of the population gathered near the centre of the shabby fishermen's settlement.
Using their staves and whips, the uniformed men separated the yammering men, women and children in two groups.
The officer grabbed the ugliest elderly woman he saw and dragged her in front the group of men. "WHO IS YOUR LEADER? he called in the slang of these parts. Silence crept over the villagers. "AGAIN, WHO LEADS YOU?" the officer called, the only sound heard was the crying of the children. "LAST CALL FOR THE LEADER!" still no response from the villagers. Looking at the group of men, he pulled his LeMat and BLAM fired the central barrel. The woman's head exploded into a shower of brains, skull and skintissue, covering everyone close enough with bits an pieces of her. The ones covered so, looked like they had just stepped right out of an abatoir.
The officer walked back to the group of women and children and took hold of the nearest kid, separating him from his mother, whom fell silent as he pushed the gun's barrels in the neckbase of the child, while looking her straight in the eyes. In his eyes she could read eagerness, a challenge to dare to defy him. She backed away.
Pushing the whining kid towards the corpse, a man stepped out from between the others, "I lead this people." he said, resignment and shock in his voice, "What is it you want?".

Captains quarters, the cod-class cruiser Ares. Same place and date but after dusk.

"All went according to plans, sir. No casualties to report. I made sure even those blind and illiterate New Swiss fools will see the message. The flock is chained and stored. Valueables are safely stored. And the men are relaxing after the hard work with some of the females." the officer said to the ships captain.
"Well done, luitenant. Untill dawn no lights on deck, those New Swiss sea-patrols are to close to take the risk. So, I suggest to keep your men quiet and in their quarters. After you've seen to that, you're dismissed untill we re-coal, we have a very long journey to make."
"Yes, sir."

Not all islands are taken by your troops it's a Big sea.
And it is a Cod class that changes flag as easely as we change underpants.

Also, Imagine, we have 1000 New Swiss soldiers on a speck of sand in the ocean, with maybe a few gunboats and a merchant standing by.

What will they do ? if they see a single cruiser of a type the Spanish don't have? Attack it?
Send smoke signals ? Not every NS gunboat or merchant has a Marconi set. Marconi can't build them that fast. Nor are those things available in luggable version, Yet.

That means you have taken 40 islands large enough to have a village like the one Agrivals men raided. I believe there are more and more interesting targets in that area.

decembre 2 1901

The Netherlands, Amsterdam - Rotterdam railwayline.

Schlock was making it himself comfortable in his 1st class cabin. The tension of the last few days had taken their toll, he felt completely worn out.
The hit on Agrival had been succesfully done, but not taken out quit as planned. He had hoped to scare the shit out of him. But the reactions of that professor Moriarty where faster than expected. One man down, well not a man anymore, not after what they had done to him.
A chill ran down his spine, thinking of losing his own family jewels. He shook his head, clearing away this horrific thoughts.

After the hit he took of fast, to a safe-house only he knew about, not even his employers. Knowing the repercussions Agrival would take, he had to use it. But he had not forseen the combined force of Agrival and Moriarty, two genial minds working together and both men international criminals. So after tree weeks in nervous hiding, to tense to get a good nights rest. Waking up from every sound however soft. He hadn't eaten much, living mostly on adreneline and now that was taking his toll.
Only a more few hours to go and he would be onboard of a New Swiss liner, heading straight back home.

Suddenly he became aware of someone in his cabin, Schlock hand was on his hidden gun even before he took in his surroundings. He had nodded of Schlock realised, he must be more tired than he had thought.

"Ticket please" the railway-guard asked.

His hand left his gun and he took his wallet out of his inside pocket and handed over his trainticket.
The guard pierced the ticket with his tongs and left the cabin. Schlock took hold of himself and went to the dining-car to get himself a cup of coffee so he could stay awake.

Before opening the door tho the dining-car, Schlock had a look trough the window in it to see if all was clear. It looked safe, only a few people sitting at the tables and watching the flat polderlandside glide by trough the windows. He entered and took a seat at the vacant table next to the door, where he could observe everything, and ordered a strong coffee from the waiter.
After finishing it he ordered another, just to make sure he would stay awake. All was well he thought, no-one would expect him here now.

When done, he had a final look around and left the dining-car, back towards his cabin. In the hallway there was only a railway-guard. Just before they passed the railway guard stumbled and bumped into Schlock. In reflex, Schlock caught the man before he could fall and at that same moment he felt a sharp sting piercing his side.
Shocked, Schlock trew the guard back down the hallway and checked his side with his hand, no blood, so it was not a knife that had entered.
He looked to the guard and saw the syringe laying on the hallway floor. He had been DRUGGED, he allready felt the numbness spreading through his body. He had to reach the cabin and his luggage to get an antidote so he could escape.
Passing the guard on the ground he kick him in the head, to make sure he would stay down. On wobbly legs he passed trough the hallway, he could make it before he passed out. He vision was getting blurry just before he reached his cabin, it was an effort just to stay on his feet and keep moving.
HE HAD TO MAKE IT! Schlock's mind filled with the horror done to his assistent, They would not get him. Staggering as a drunk he opened the cabin door and entered by shear force of will, reaching for his suitcase as his knees gave out. Pulling himself up so he could just reach the suitcase-handle he pulled it down with him.
Fumbling the lock open, he felt for his antidote-case with numb fingers and taking it out. Taking it close to his face, he tried to make up from down with his dimming vision.

"Better give to me for safekeeping" he heard a mans say.

As the case was pulled out of his hands, Schlock slid into oblivion.

Brandenburg , Hotel Frederic II

Honey, have you read the newpaper today?
No my love. The maid didn't deliver the tea on perfect temperature, so I Had to punish her.
Marissa, I hope you didn't damage her to much, Little Lisa is much to precious, isn't she?
Agrival, I know, why do you think I only used the silk ropes and the short rubber whip? But what's in the newspaper you are so excited about?

France used the green gas in the Portugese Red rebellion. And with great effect. I wonder what the other countries would offer for the formula?

Love, you'll need an advertisment campagne, and if you're going to advertise it, do it in style. Why not use it to gas more of those socialist idiots? And do you remember our last visit to Paris 3 months ago. That unresponsive "artiste", that miss Hari in the Moulin Rouge, and the managment what didn't coorperate like they should. I see a nice way to combine those.

Marissa, I do see the possibilities of your idea. I must say, it's one of the reasons I do love you this much. I must send a telegram to Brains.

Baron von Letters put down the Gazette. "The bounty on Agrival's gone up again."

"How much?"

"3,000 troy ounces."

Kommodore von Hoban shook his head. "You'd think he'd be dead meat with all that on his head."

"True, but before you can bring him in you've got to catch him." The Baron lit a cigar. "You know, the Abwehr believes he's got agents right here in town."

"And we don't round them up why?"

"Same reason. Just because you know where they are doesn't mean you know where they are." Letters studied his cigar for a moment. "But, we can make sure that anything they do, they do in a goldfish bowl..."

(Note: 3,000 troy ounces of gold is equal to 250 pounds or 375 marks (of gold rather than silver) It is more than one man might weigh generally, so Agrival is likely now worth more than his weight in gold. Assuming gold exchange is equal with the real world in 1903, that is equal to $62,010 at $20.67 a troy ounce. Or using 2006 prices $1,864,500)

June 1903, somewhere in Rohan, a small village.

"So master Parselmouth, do you have the information I demanded of you?" asked the voice from within the darkness of his cabin when Grima entered. His allready pale complexion turned white when hearing the voice of his contact. The unexpected appearence but not question took Grima a bit by suprice, "Well... uhm, ever since the bounty's gone up, so did the sentries duty. It's hard to get near Anduril these days. Patrol's are ordered out with random intervals, it's only guards who get in OR escorted visitors. And only the rightfull ruler is able to get within arms reach of it."
"Do you have the plans of the building lay-out?", the voice asked.
"No sir, those are equally secure in a secret vault" Grima answered.
"I want them within the next 3 months" the voice replied "Get them or else your employment will be terminated."
"Yyyes, sir." Grima answered into the shadow's darkness.

All he heard was silence as a reply.
