I'm calling it a campaign.

Guinness

I feel conspicuous in my silence here. I suppose that's what I get for going to bed early last night...

I know that Rocky knows how much he is appreciated by the other members of the mod team, but it deserves repeating that here.

Once we're over the shock of this news, I imagine thoughts will turn to what's next. I'll go ahead and speak explicitly now: I'm planning to soldier on as long as there are those who want to play. There has been in the past serious discussion of a reboot, etc. which I'm sure we'll discuss, but for now I want to see the two current wars through to their conclusion, (or at least to a stalemate in the case of China).

Before we talk about rebooting the game lets at least get out of 1919 H2.

Logi

You will certainly be missed, Rocky. :'(

ciders

Certainly... of course, he will be missed. :'(

The only difference, between the balls of July 14th and the French Revolution, it is the size of firecrackers and the direction towards which we launch them.

Thank you all for your kind words.  It will certainly be weird not to actively play here, but I think I will need a week or two to properly update the Colombian encyclopedia and 2/19 sim report to ensure all info is present for my eventual replacement.

To echo what Guinness alluded to - I think the sim is currently quite strong, and feel that it can continue in its current form for some time.  You do have two matters needing some consideration from everybody, though:

-Whether or not you may be willing to step forward and help with the moderating duties, if Guinness and Maddox seek a replacement for me.  It is not easy work, but it is important work.  Three sets of hands make for easier lifting than two.

-Whether or not you are interesting, willing, and able to move up to a larger power.  With my departure, there are now three major powers - UNK and Rohan (for a while, anyway) that will be sitting idle.  The sim needs these powers in play more than it needs minor powers in play.  I would encourage those of you who've played minor powers for a while to consider moving up in the power hierarchy.

I would not mind, but I serious lack ideas for news and am a bit attached to my characters. I'd love to turn GC into a Japanese colony though. *runs away* ;D

A shame to see you go. Guess we had a lot of fun causing mischief here and over at Wesworld.

Life is a bit uncertain ATM- but there is a copy of Grand Fleets v.2 sitting by my desk.
Converting the ships would take more time than I have ATM, but I might be able to sim some of the smaller battles if the ship's owners would be willing to convert the ships themselves.
So 'ere's to you, Fuzzy-Wuzzy, at your 'ome in old Baghdad;
You're a pore benighted 'eathen but a first-class fightin' man;
We gives you your certificate, an' if you want it signed
We'll come an' 'ave a romp with you whenever you're inclined.

Logi

Oh tempting, but I'm the middle of a war. I think the UNK, Rohan, and GC will not be occupied by me for some time if it is open. As long as it remains unscripted anyways.

As for the moderators, I do have time often, so I could assist. However, I do not have the equipment necessary to sim out naval and land battles (I mean if relying on board games and board game rulesets). So unless there is an online way to do such things, I will be quite devoid in that capacity.

That said, I'm sure there are better candidates for Moderator. :-X

*Pops over from Wesworld upon hearing the news.*

Will add my respect to the grand master.  Thanks for all you've done for the sim community, Rocky, both for Wesworld and Navalism.

O.O well....that was unexpected. This officially sucks. You'll be missed man, hope ya pop in everyonce in a while.
Agreed.

Now who am I supposed to annoy to get my research results? ;)

Kaiser Kirk

Well Rocky,

You will be definitely missed. Your strong presence and stories in both Wesworld and Navalism was a bonus.  However, with the type of time commitment you're indicating...yeah a bit more space might be nice :)  Still... you could always be tempted to play a tiny power....

Thanks for all the work, be well.

Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
