I expect to be departing tomorrow for a two week vacation.
I may pop in from time to time, but Bavaria will not be exactly active.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

Curious what kind of vakation you planned...

Well I did say "not exactly active"...landmines being more of a passive defense.

Just car camping this time. Back in May I had a trip up to Washington state planned, to visit Olympic Natl park. But it was still snowing up there and trails and roads were closed, so I ducked out. I expect to do that part now. After that..I have a little more time available, so may make side trips to Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Hood, etc.

I'll work another week of vacation in somewhere in Sept I hope- maybe Lassen or go back to Yosemite.  Florida in Nov, NYC in December.

You should do Mt. Hood, it is quite nice. Timberline lodge has some great food and even better views.

Hmmmm good food....  argh, drool

If I get to Hood will depend on a number of things- how much time I take further North being the biggest :) Last Sept, I simply took distant pictures but I did manage to stop at Crater Lake again... and learned I don't like days with 13hrs of driving.

Food...darn forgot to order a pizza tonight. Silly me.

The views are even better, a great reward after riding up the mountain on a bike  ;D

I really haven't biked much in years.
Old one had severe issues, so bought one just ~3weeks ago, taken it out 5-6 times, with an inadvertant* 20mile ride Sunday.  However biking up a mountain doesn't sound like it would be to my liking.  Mountains are for skiing down :)

*as in gee, I'll go 5 miles and turn around..whoops went 7... oh heck may as well go to the end...

Hiking UP the mountain isn't the problem...

I'd agree.....When I got back from the two-week backpacking vacation I took, I couldn't run a lap around a track, just because my knees would be needing replacement if I did....
