P3D

I am on a conference. Looking out from my hotel room in Norfolk, VA, I saw a navy replenishment ship (#43, class/designation unknown) and a CVN (both in floating dock), and two Burkes in the background. Nobbad.  8)

Visited USS Wisconsin, kinda letdown. Only the weather deck is  open to the public. And the docents (veteran volunteers leading tours) were sent home due to the 95/95 (as in temperature/humidity) weather, and the present volunteers that I spoke with knew only the speeches they learned by heart.  :-[

The first purpose of a warship is to remain afloat. Anon.
Below 40 degrees, there is no law. Below 50 degrees, there is no God. sailor's maxim on weather in the Southern seas

Sachmle

Only ship with just 43 in commission is USS Fort McHenry LSD-43, based in Little Creek, Va.

Should you ever get down south, P3D, the Alabama wouldn't disappoint.
Well, unless you wanted to get into the powder magazine or the fighting top... both of those are off limits.

World's only dreadnought still around can't hurt either.....If it wasn't suffering from VERY severe flooding problems, that is.

Darman

Define "still around" cuz I'm pretty sure the Massachusetts is still docked in Fall River...

TexanCowboy

That's not a dreadnought, that's a World War II era ship. I believe dreadnought had been defined as from the 1906-1920 era, although I may be wrong. If it helps you, Standard class?

Darman

Gotcha.  Wasn't sure sure if that counted since it was a WW2 ship.
Learn something new every day :D  Makes two things for today... theres a beaver living down behind my dorm.

If your college is like most college's there's probably a lot of beaver living behind dorms.  ;)

Sachmle

Swamp? Florida by chance?

Huh...I would never have guessed there was swamp in NE. I've been to PA, NY, NH, MA, VT, ME, NJ, DE, and MD. Must be NJ.  :D

Swamps in RI don't resemble the Everglades  :)  and its more of a swampy area than a full-blown swamp (although if you go a mile down the road there IS a full-blown swamp).

Desertfox

Could be worse, we have skunks and javelinas in my campus.

Once a beaver builds a damn across the stream the area above the damn become a lake and a large swampy area.

Oh and the leading cause of death in Beavers is still falling tree's
