Just got out of the hospital. Apologies, for not notifying sooner.

As soon as I get settled in today or tomorrow, I'll try to catch up.

Damocles.

Glad to hear you are back on your feet
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

Sneak home and pray that you'll never know

Neither body and fender shop is fun to visit... or cheap.
Here's to a short stay and hot nurses. :D
So 'ere's to you, Fuzzy-Wuzzy, at your 'ome in old Baghdad;
You're a pore benighted 'eathen but a first-class fightin' man;
We gives you your certificate, an' if you want it signed
We'll come an' 'ave a romp with you whenever you're inclined.

The car was totaled. It was squashed between two large trucks. I'm lucky to be alive. It'll be a month or more before my leg cast comes off. My forearm (I'm told) is held together with pins. I was not conscious when they patched me up, so I know next to nothing, but what I learned from the accident report. No memory of it at all.

The only good news out of this wreck, if you can call it that, was that no one else was seriously hurt, and I was not at fault. I'll let the lawyers sort out the post mortems, as to who gets the works and the bill for this mess. I am just thankful that no one else was badly hurt or killed. That is the important thing. I'll heal, but the thought of someone else hurt in such an accident just makes me sick. I've seen enough mangled bodies pulled from stuff like this wreck was to get physically ill at the thought of someone else suffering through it.

Back in my army days, a few of my colleagues were extemely lucky in Germany. On the highway, a truck in front of them came to a very quick halt due to a traffic jam and they had to stop quickly as well. A truck behind them could veer off to the right onto the shoulder just in time to miss their landrover. Riding shotgun on one of the radio trucks a bit further back, I saw the truck moving to the right from a distance of about 500 meters or so (I think the guys just managed to keep the underwear clean).

Sometimes you can be lucky, sometimes you have bad luck, and sometimes you are just plain dead. It's a  bad thing it happened to you but it is a good thing that you can still talk about it. Get well soon!
