Fengle, Battleship of the Mark, along with Combat Cruisers Ostoher and Narmacil left Mithlond yesterday morning for Clipperton Island were they will meet the Armed Collier Himling before they proceed to Easter Island to begin a search for clues to this Director possibly turned Pirate Agrival. Eldacar, Combat Cruiser of the Mark under Commander Harlock will remain in Rohan until some clues are found. Fengle has received a new wireless telegraph unit intended for Eomer, Battleship of the Mark, under the suggestion of the Commander Herad Entwine of the Ostoher. Should the force find clues leading to the pirates that attacked the Peace Fleet last August, Eldacar will go forth with Command Harlock for a little hunt. Lord Harlock has been quoted saying, "This Agrival gives pirates a bad name." This paper things the good captain of the Eldacar has a family reputation to uphold. Word has reportedly been sent to the Brandenburgians letting them know Rohan is coming.

October 8, 1901

Fighting broke out near city in eastern Hondoras as Follower's of the Eye attempted to raid a ranger station for arms and horses. Seven of the followers are dead and eight wounded while three rangers were killed.

October 9, 1901

Brego, Battleship of the Mark, escorted by ex-confederate cruisers Alsea, Lumni, Nootka, were sent out yesturday to bring the United Kingdom's 5th Cruiser Squadron to North Mithlond. A representative from the Kingdom is expected to be given an audience with Theocro King in the 12th.

October 10, 1901

Eomer, Battleship of the Mark, will be undergoing continued testing of her new turret sometime into next year it seems. The yard says that the turret is not balanced correctly and tends to jam. They don't want to think about what it will do when it fires even one gun, much less two until they get the balance worked out. A new wireless telegraph is being fitted to replace the one taken by the Fengle earlier this month.

October 19, 1901

Word has readed this paper that Fengle's Force has reached Clipperton Island and met Himling to put on coal. Thengle, Battleship of the Mark was also there keeping and eye on the island.

November 1, 1901

Several workers in Vinyamar have been found dead after many reports of voices at the shipyard. Several crews say the Anahuac Battleship 11, currently under refit and repair for the Brandenburg nation, is haunted by the Followers of the Eye that were killed when this vessel was taken early last year. "Spirits of the honorless enemy do not haunt warships" said one of the foremen of the yard.

November 11, 1901

Several ships of the Caribbean Fleet set forth yesturday for War Games. The Fleet Marshals have not given word about what they are playing out this year, but at some point the naval papers will hear of this.

November 12, 1901

Fengle, Battleship of the Mark, has reportedly arrive at Easter Island sometime earlier this month and is currently hunting for Pirates in the Pacific Ocean. Eldacar and Lord Harlock have been dispatched to assist them as of yesterday afternoon.

November 15, 1901

As Isengard the last series of test on the triple turret design for the Arcadia, Battleship of the Mark, have caused some people grief. "I'm afraid the ergonomics in the turret need a lot of work more," was the official statement after an accident cost one of the gunners an arm. He was loading the bags in gun nummer 2 when gun number 3 closed the breech. The man has been taken out of service, but he is still living as of last report.

(More to come as other news filters about that the rest of the world is doing)

Rohan writes this as a formal protest of the actions of the Hapsburg Empire and Russian Empire. While the goals of the stated intensions of the interventionist forces is admirable, the legality of such an effort and the manner in which it is to be carried out has much to be desired. Upholding a treaty is one thing, punishing nations that have not lost in war and potentially violating their sovereign rights should not be up to a third party.

While "for the record" states that the intervention applies to both sides, the Middle Kingdom has no need to send ships across international waters, they have no troops in current New Swiss territory, and they have no people in Swiss lands. This intervention effects the country of New Switzerland for all intents and purposes and is highly discouraged by Theocro King of Rohan.

Should this intervention succeed without incident, Rohan will be highly impressed in the Austrian's skill and the Swiss's patience. Rohan would suggest the Swiss Government do its upmost to get as much accomplished before Fellowship Day.

The Kingdom of Rohan would remind the Empire of the Hapsburgs that while the treaty does not specify that the industrical materials were to be removed, it also does not state that they are to be left behind. Your intervention is designed to prevent a war...don't go starting one by taking people's livelihoods away from them. Your mission is to stop weapons and troops from entering the Mainland from Swiss lands, and troops and arms from the Mainland from reaching Swiss lands to attacl said lands....nothing more if your mission be true to its purpose. Stopping Swiss civilian ships and Swiss transports leaving the Middle Kingdom are not your concern if they don't have Middle Kingdom troops or arms on the vessels.

That is what Rohan has to say on this matter.

Rohirrim Naval War Games, (quick version).
(might rewrite to better effect later)

Situation: The slower fleet of the Mark tries to defend against a quicker more heavily armed enemy.

Attackers:

Battleships:
Theoden
Goldwine

Belted Cruisers:
Nevrast
Minas Harthad

Destroyers:
Folwine
Fastred
Baldur
Felarrof

Defenders:

Battleship:
Aldor

Combat Cruiser:
Tarcil

Armored Cruiser:
Denethor

Torpedo Boats:
Gamling
Theodred
Arod
Theobrand
Gamond

First engagement:

Belted Cruisers Nevrast and Minas Harthad each score a single hit on a torpedo boat, knocking two of the three boats out of action.

Goldwine scores a single hit at long range on Tarcil, which is leading the defenders..doesn't penetrat the armor.

Tarcil replies but misses.
Aldor fires, hits Goldwine but doesn't penatrate the turret armor.

Second engagement:

Destroyer Fastred hits a torpedo boat taking it out of action.

Goldwine misses.

Tarcil hits Goldwine once with her primary 11 inch guns and once with her secondary 9 inch. nothing penetrates.
Aldor fires snf hits Goldwine once with her 12 inch and once with her 9 inch secondaries., nothing penetrates.
Denethor fires her old 9 inch guns at Nevrast, hits once. Doesm't penetrate.

Third engagement:

Destroyers Fastred and Folwine destroy the two remaining torpedo boats (but those boats fire torpedoes at Nevrast and Minas Harthad)

Goldwine fires at Tarcil and hits once putting a large hole in her hull...a hole big enough to let to oceans take her below the waves..Tarcil out of action.

Tarcil's fire returns to Goldwine, hitting with both 9 inch guns, they don't penetrate but they do clear the decks.
Aldor fires on Goldwine, hitting with a secondary only on the main turrets which they can't penetrate.
Denethor fires on Nevrast, hitting with a primary shell, nearly taking her out of action with a fire raging in the boiler room.

Theobrand and Gamond fire torpedoes, two each, one pair on Nevrast, one hitting causing enough damage to finish her off. The other pair going towards Minas Harthad, one hits causing some damage but nothing too serious.

Fourth Engagement:

Goldwine fires on Aldor misses

Aldor fires on Goldwine, two hits with primaries and two with secondaries, destroying two guns (one 4.5 and one 9 inch), followed by a massive hole, takes out another 4.5 inch gun plus an engine room fire.
Denethor fires on the destroyers hitting one that knocks it out of action.

Fifth engagement:

Theoden masks Goldwine and fires on Aldor, scoring two hits with primaries, but only causes minor damage.

Aldor returns fire on Theoden, also scoring two primary hits and three secondary hits. Takes out two 4.5 inch guns (and damages the bridge) all the 9 inch guns on the starboard side and another 4.5.
Denethor fires on Theoden, hits twice causing a fire to break out inside the ship.

Sixth Engagement:

Both Goldwine and Theoden turn away from the defenders and limp away as the cruisers and destroyers go for torpedo attacks.

Minas Harthas fires her guns at Denethor, two hits but no penetrations with the 6 inch guns.

Denethor fires on Minas Harthas with primaries/secondaries and the destroyers with quick fires. one hit with primaries and one with secondaries on the cruiser, taking her out of action.
...quick fires miss.
Aldor fires quick fires and 6 inch guns on destroyers. Manage to destroy one with a six inch round.

Torpedo runs...three hits on Aldor and one on Denethor Aldor is heavily damaged and will probably sink due to progressive flooding and the actions of the cripped Theoden and Goldwine.
Denethor sinks from the torpedo strike.

Seventh Engagement:

Aldor fires parting shots at Goldwine, two hits with primaries and one with the nine inch guns, does not penetrate
Six inch and three inch fire on destroyers, sinking two of them.

Goldwine and Theoden fire on Aldor, Goldwine hitting with both aft guns, knocking the crippled battleship out of action by hitting her in the clustered secondaries and teriaries.

After Action Report:

Torpedo attacks can be successful, as some recent battles around the world have shown. Due to the masking of several units, not all anti-torpedo boat weapons were used effectively by the Attacking Fleet, thought he cruisers and destroyers did do their job. The older guns on the Defenders fleet are still potent as they managed to cripple both Goldwine and Theoden in quick order even without superior numbers. It might be useful to reclassify the older 11 inch gun armed Combat Cruisers as Second or Third Class Battleships in the near future to suppliment or replace the current model Dwarven Battleships, as they are the same size or larger even than the Dwarven Battleships. When possible, some investment into torpedo protection, other than nets, should be looked into. Either a better way of tracking and destroying the boats and destroyers that launch the weapons or a better defense to keep the ships afloat.

Surviviors:
Destroyer Baldur
Battleships Goldwine and Theoden, both crippled.

Note: Elfwine and Romendacil remained on patrol during the war games.

November 18, 1901

With the Spanish-Swiss war in full swing, reports have come that the Fengel and Eldacar are tracking the hiding place of the Pirate Director Agrival someplace in the Southwestern Pacific. No reports have surfaced yet about any hostile encounters but reports are limited to Fengel's wireless telegraph and any stops the ships make in their travels.

November 21, 1901

Freighter Queen Emeraldas has again graced the port of North Mithlond to pickup and deliver materials for the Fleet of the Mark. Reportedly she will head to Brithomber and then again to France and back to Brothomber for more parts for the French built Arcadia. The Arcadia is said to be changed greatly from when she arrived earlier this year as the Paris. The ram bow has been reshaped, a new superstructure is being built and mounting for the guns are coming together. Their is a vast hole in the deck for her new powerplant and boilers to be installed. It is hoped that the renewed Pacific War and the War between the Confederacy and Island Commonwealth will not get in the way of completing this vessel.

November 30, 1901

Another factory opened today in New Beleriand. Canimen and Mesoamerican workers have already applied for jobs there as well as the two Hondoras factories that will open in January. The current new factory will not product anything until January as it will finish out parts and materials needed to train the workers for all three new factories.

(more to come)

The large freighter Star of Elendil has reportedly run aground near Essalieyan territorial waters and broke its shafts. Unfortunately, the Essalieyans have not responded to any messages from Rohan, so the Marshal of the Eastern Seas has dispatched the Elfwine, Battleship of the Mark, to escort four tugs and a collier to pull the grounded vessel back to sea and tow her home. They should arrive at the crippled vessel on the evening of the 16th and bring the crippled vessel early in January.

December 4, 1901

Lord Harlock and Eldacar, Combat Cruiser of the Mark has arrived in the New Swiss port of Phoenix a few days ago. She should meet up with the Fengel's group tomorrow with a change in mission. The mission to track down the "pirate" Agrival will be put on hold while the Ships of the Mark will investigate the sutuation in Taiwan between the Swiss and Hapsburg forces. It is hoped to find out why this now month old war is even happening.

The ships have already been sent, and Rohan believes they can pull the crippled vessel home easily enough. While the help is generous, we think we can handle this. No sense risking your ships near Essalieyan waters. They sometimes don't like that. At least with Rohan's ships it will make sense to any of them that might be watching, as they will all have the same flag flying.
