 July 4, 1901

Groundbreaking for the New Beleriand Canal was held early today between the various powers involved in the construction of this third Central American canal. In a speech Beraguard Parigal, Governor of New Beleriand, told those gathered in the hot summer sun, "Rohan's wish this to be a canal that is built in a good way. No corruption, and no forced labor. The spirits of those that have died for these lands for the last two ages of man would want it that way." New Swiss teams will start the real work next week.

July 8, 1901

A group known as "The Followers of the True Way" have taken responcibilty for a raid on Mesoamerican troops that were being trained by the Army of Rohan. As the Army of Rohan is suppose to left the non-annexed or demilitarized areas of the Mesoamerican Republic this month this attack threats to keep Rohan's forces in the new Republic longer than expected.

July 19, 1901

Work of the former Anahuac Battlebarge 11 (Paderborn-Delbrück) began last week for the Brandenburgians. However some of the workers have refused to go back to the ship. They claim its is haunted by the spirits of the Anahuac sailors that died in the assault to take the vessel last year. Port authorities call this a notion of people who have been reading stories of the Army of the Dead too much, but the dock workers say they have heard strange noises that sound like a lanuage they cannot identify.

July 20, 1901

Ostoher, Combat Cruiser of the Mark will be sent to Asia to represent Rohan in the Hapsburg arranged peace talkes next month. The cruiser will stop in Hawaii on the to Asia to take on coal and possibly again Phoenix. The cruiser will arrive in prenty of time.


July 22, 1901

More materials have been delivered to the drydock holding Eomer, Battleship of the Mark. It seems the Mark will add one of the new wireless telegraph units into the warship. Similar parts have been seem being delivered to the Brytta as well. One report has a freighter making runs to both vessel's shipyards and then heading to New Beleriand with more parts that are to go to the former French Battleship Paris. The freighter, the Queen Emeraldas, is reportedly operated by Mithlond Yards and will be sent to France to trade parts to help complete the ex-Paris in a timely manner.

July 29, 1901

The recently declared Empire of Japan has been offered continued relations by the Kingdom of Rohan under its current name to maintain the balance in North America. Being neighbors Rohan has a small "Japanese" population including the wife and brother-in-law of Lord Harlock of Mithlond. Before the recent war with the Anahuac Empire the largest problem between Rohan and the "Japanese" was over fishing and whaling rights and respecting local waters and native peoples hunting in canoe.

Theoden's Day

Today we remember one king who helped shape our destiny. Theoden King is remembered as a legend, but is considered to have been an actual living person by historians, as the written evidence from the archives of Edoras, Mundburg, and Dol Amroth along with some mention from other coninental sources indicates that he did live and that he was king of Rohan 8,200 years ago. His grave is also still present in Edoras. While most of his reign is lost to history, just that he was considered to have decayed during the last decade of the Third Age until his spirit was rekindled just before the great battles before the Hornburg and Mundburg that pushed the darkness back to Mordor. Theoden died in front of Mundburg at the hieght of the battle, but his spirit remains to remind us to keep our head in the light and charge when the worse seems to be upon you. Some say his tactics imply that the best defense is a good offense. They may be correct, and Rohan has followed this logic for land and naval warfare. While on land the days of the horse are ending, they still are a heavy and quick offensive tool that reminds our potential enemies that we can strike them back fast and hard should they attempt to take our lands or those of our allies. On the sea, this has brought about the practice of arming our ships heavily. They have to come to us, unless they wish to wait for us to come to them, but we will make them pay dearly should they try either option.

Today the War is over and the Enemy has been cast out once more. Theocro King went to the mounds of his grandfathers, his great-grand mothers, and uncles that were King of Rohan. Vistiting the 274 graves of the kings and queens of old, Theocro is reminded that one day he will be greave 275, but is glad that he and his people survived the war. The Simbelmyne (Evermind) still bloom on every grave. The traditional reading of the names was done as is done when a new King is put on the throne, but the line breaks at Theoden to drink then continues until Theocro King is named, then the second drink is had. Rememberance of Theoden still takes centerstage on this day.

August 13, 1901

Work began on the now Swiss Battleship Hawaii after one of their freighters managed to cross the great ocean. While the ship was badly beaten in battle last year, Rohan believes they can rebuild it to suit the Swiss's needs. Rumor that they will provide a new engine within the next six months along with some for some of the new battleships of the Mark have not been confirmed as of yet due to the war in Asia. It is hoped that the forthcoming peace talks will result in the end of hostilies.

August 20, 1901

The Army of Rohan is heading home. While having stayed over a month longer than expected, the Army of Rohan believes they have trained the Army of the Mesoamerican Republic well enough to combat the remaining loyalist in their nation. Other Gondorian and Rohirrim forces will stay in Hondoras, New Rhun and New Beleriand. These forces will project when needed to quell uprisings and loyalist forces along with the anarchist groups that have sprouted in the last few months.

August 30, 1901

Work on the triple turrets for the ex-Paris continue. The engineers involved thing the project looks promising but they will not have room in the turrets so the guns can operate independently of each other. This is a minor setback and will force the ship to fire all three guns at one rough location rather than a slight spread that is possible with the current twin turrets.

September 6, 1901

Advanced studies on the Eomer have concluded that the new turret will work, but they will need to make several modifications to the existing vessel to be sure it works. The bridge will need to be raised and the number of shells the magazine will hold will be reduced. The stability of the ship has been questioned with the increased topweight of the turret and raised bridge. The engineers have come up with a new cage-like mast design that will reportedly save weight and be next to impossible to shoot off like the mast on the Helm Hammerhand and Brego were. The new mast is only being installed in place of the forward mast as the old mast would have been too tall had they kept it and raised the rest of the superstructure. Brytta will likely also receive similar masts as progress of her continues into 1902 of the Sixth Age.

A birthday like any other for the 53 year old king. He did not sneak away from the party this year, which is a first in memory for Theocro King.

September 22, 1901

More refuges and immigrants from former ACM directorates have come to Rohan. It is said that the ACM peoples have heard stories of the Rohirrim being fair and just with their people and have come to join the rest of the Caniman of the Mark.

September 29, 1901

With harvest coming people have reflected on the soft winter in 1900-01. The horses had plenty of food, people were fed, and productive. In review the production of the war during the summer was better than average some would say. The editors of this paper would like every year to be like this one, but know that everything comes in cycles otherwise the world decays.

With the threat of a Spanish-Swiss War just over a month old the Fleets of Rohan have gone on alert in both the Pacific and the Caribbean Sea. While Rohan is not at war with any country at this time, the probability of the spread of said wars and piracy increasing due to the removal of regular patrols has caused the King to order his forces to be ready for a possible renewed state of war at sea. Training will increase and a practice combat action will be conducted for the first time since 1898. The first practice combat will be in the Caribbean Sea with the local fleet. A second practice combat will take place in the Pacific early next year to go along with the shakedown of Eomer, Battleship of the Mark, after completing her refit and repairs hopefully later this year.

The types of combat to be practice has not yet been released to the public.

September 30, 1901

Ostoher, Combat Cruiser of the Mark returned from Asia last night with word that the peace conference was attacked. Some of the prisoners were interogated enough to find a name behind the attack, "Agrival". The Caniman of the Mark (Former ACM peoples) say that this name is familiar to them. It was the name of the Director of Easter Island, though they say he is dead. Cruisers Ostoher, Narmacil, and battleship Fengel will be sent to Easter Island with the armed collier Himling joining them near Clipperton Island to investigate this information and then begin a search for this missing Director, should he live. He has much to answer for to Rohan and the Caniman peoples. Both for the Caniman's plight and the attack of the Peace Conference.
