 Fleet back from major excersises

The various fleet elements that went out in the north atlantic have returned to Copenhagen. A part visited Reykjavik, to renew our relations with the Essalieyan empire, another part has stayed in the west and is now a temporary part of the American Station. Because of the heavy seas and storms a part of the light forces ran out of fuel and had to rely on sail power to get back.
user posted imagetorpedoboat with sail gear
They could have made to port in Vlissingen, but the government did not authorize this, since the Netherlands just had the coup and a visit by Baltic forces might have escalated. The emergency sail power was succesfull, it had never been tried before on the atlantic.

mysterious wolf...

april, 12, 1900

At the blocksberg, where the witches convene from time to time in secrecy, a wolf has been spotted. Wolves were believed extinct in this region since the middle ages. Our photographer managed to get a shot at him.

user posted image

His group however, was immediately thereafter attacked by the Wolf, that went berserk after the magnesium flash went off for the photograph. A riflegroup of mountain infantry, attached to the party, succeeded in driving the animal off. Dozens of hits were observed, but the wolf ran away in the woods. No body or even blood-traces have been found.

Thundercloud dubbed "Thor's Hammer" appears again

31st of march - sabine hagendoren

The thundercloud, which has been popularly named Thor's Hammer has reappeared over Copenhagen. A collier has been lost in the Kattegat in the storm that raged at the same time.

user posted image

This particularly shaped (see photograph - like a reversed hammer) thundercloud has appeared previously on feb 13, march 11, march 14 and march 26. The society of the nordic belief claims this predicts bad evens, since it has appeared on the day of the Tungushka event, the coup in the Netherlands and the death of the kaiser. "Thor is taking up his role in world affairs, prior to the return of the gods" says calamity prophet Bjorn Bluebeard..."the end is near, repent yourselves"... Scientists blame a electromagnetic peak that has existed since the Tungushka event for the frequent storms and thunder.

hysteric woman shot by secret police

A woman, screaming "thor wil return and kill you all" has attacked princess Victoria with a knife. Secret police officials shot her before she could do the princess any harm. The woman died half an hour later, exclaiming madness hysterically. Our reporter has noted some of her statements:

"Thor has punished the russians in Siberia with his fireballs, killed the kaiser and has emplanted his seed in all royalty. The twilight of the gods is imminent"

"This new century will be the bloodiest of all...in the end men will kill more then all the gods ever have"

May the gods have mercy upon the poor distorted soul of this woman.

The Phantom Longboat

The flying Viking, the much rumoured ghostship of the Kattegat, has been spotted and captured by a patrol. Saved crews of wrecked ships in the last months have reported it, but were never believed. The navigation officer of the collier wrecked last week exactly pointed its position, and one of the patroling torpedovessels managed to sight it and take it in tow. The first officer of the torpedoboat is an amateur archeologist, and claims it is at least ten centuries old, but no signs of wear and tear and no signs of any crew... Scientist will investigate tomorrow.

Has been burned today by Relious Fanatics of the Wiking Division. They cried out man should keep out of Wodan's business.

The perpetrators have been jailed. Inside the prison, they make the sounds of howling wolves which can be heard all over Copenhagen. Let us hope common sense, which seems evermore lacking in this first year of a new century, will regain territory over the irrational tendencies.

More Storms to come in last week of April

april 24th - from our weather correspondent, S Hagendoren

weather institute hopes day of wedding wil be ok

A deppression is lurking over Scandinavia. The months february, march and april have been worse than any in the century before, with a record of 21 days with more than 7 beauforts of wind.

Yesterday, a picture was made of one of our older torpedoboats escorting the armoured cruiser squadron on their journey from their base at Bergen to copenhagen (for the naval review):

Our newer tb's have an improved turtledeck, no longer is the back sloped down as in the pictured tb, but horizontal, which makes the newer boats much dryer.

NAVAL REVIEW

A great number of ships will take part in the copenhagen naval review.

user posted image

BLN "Sleipnir", one of our latest panzerskipp-cruisers, stationed at Bergen, that has already arrived in Copenhagen harbour.

Apart from the 100 baltic ships, dozens of other nation's ships are underway to take part in the event.

New Switzerland: 2 cruisers, already here.
DKB> Battleship "Kaiser Karl der Grosse", with Kaiser Wilhelm II (a major diplomatic breakthrough in BL - DKB relations)
Ottoman> "Bafra" and "Abdul Hamid"
UKA: a group of warships, composition not known to the redaction of this paper yet.
CSA: a battleship and a first class cruiser
Rohan: the armoured cruiser "Denethor"
Russian Empire: one complete Battlesquadron of the baltic fleet.

This paper will bring you a fully illustrated story on the international review.

(if player nations can send particulars of their ships and ship's looks)

Abandoned freighter found in Pacific by baltic packet steamer

The freighter S.S. Dittmarsken, of the India-Java-Pacific line has found a mysterious ship near an uninhabited island in the pacific, sometimes used for replenishment of fresh water and vegetables.

Not a soul was found on board. The lifeboats were all hanging in place and there were rotting remnants of the meal on the tables. The freight was untouched and no sign of any struggle.

The only clue seems the last entry in the log:
QUOTE
NSS Mayberry, log, 27th april, 1900, 1403 hrs
the fog seems dense, too tense perhaps, and on a wrong time of the day, smelling sweet but with a subtle scent of burned pork...

special coloured edition of baltic illustrated press

covering royal wedding and naval review

The Baltic illustrated press has been experimenting with colour photography for some years now. It is done by making three pictures, with a red, yellow and blue filter. Unfortunately the technique is as yet not economically viable (this may still take five decades of development). For the special occasion of the wedding, our direction has decided to make an edition featuring colour photographs even if it means no profit will be made.
