Disappearing Carriages for 18-20'' guns? Wouldn't that destroy the gun and Carriage?

Guinness

Tables look good.

Numbers... We might want to try to round them off a bit to something like 2 decimal places I think. I can just hear Borys's abicus coming apart. The tables definitely help a lot, but we'll still have to add up all those crooked numbers later.

Well, 14" guns and bigger were deployed on disappearing carriages, so rather think an 18" gun on a disappearing carriage would simply be an exercise in scale. After all the blast, which is the most difficult part, is a long way from the carriage.

Keep in mind that the Germans created some siege guns of truely huge size.

Also US, Japan and UK all made at least a few examples of 18" weapons and all were proof fired.  So such weapons can be used, they would just need large support structures and have hellish blast effects plus, IMHO, being not worth the effort.

I think Well Done !
And I'm pleased this discussion is occurring before I go on a coast Def building spree.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

TexanCowboy

I am as well. Can we delay the start of 1918 so we can form committies to create the new tables, such as destroyer, sub, and aircraft?

Guinness

Most of that stuff is fleshed out up until 1918 at least, so I don't think we need to get in *that* big a hurry.

There looks to be more than a few rules modifications to take place come 1/1918 however.

Logi

Ah, it is good that this is coming up just as I was about to start building coastal batteries.

ctwaterman

Excellent Excellent I love it when a plan comes together.

LOL!
I CAN do fractions, I swear! As long as its adding and subtracting, that is.
And I'll round them up anyway :)

Just to clarify - the table is "per barrel"?

miketr

Yes sir... 1 barrel per mount and once again this does't include either a radio or fire control setup.

OK added some stuff in for people to consider.

Extra Defense is just that extra defense for coast defense weapons.  In effect it's a little extra concrete and or earth to protect them, making them harder to knock out but not impossible.  Figure the effect would be 12" battery could take 16" fire, 6" battery could withstand 10" fire, and so on.

Massive Defense is just that, your engineers have gone hog wild with concrete and earth in an attempt to make it all but impossible to get to the vitals (magazines, power rooms, command center, etc).  The weapons themselves are still exposed of course.  The concrete BB would be an example, 30 plus feet of reinforced concrete over the vitals. Able to withstand the heaviest bombardment or air attacks.  Once again the weapons themselves could be knocked out or suppressed but short of WW2 Tallboy's and Grand Slam Bombs or a GBU-28 Bunker Buster or a commando team paying a personal visit the vitals are secure.

Extra Defense and Extra are bought per barrel.  Fire Control and Radio's are bought per battery.
