That's OK, because I just reread the rule, and cost for upkeep is only the cost of the turret, not the installation cost as well. So, it's only $0.03/HY for upkeep since the total cost in the previous post by me included installation, which doesn't figure into upkeep. So apparently 8" naval artillery makes REALLY CHEAP coastal defense guns.

QuoteSorry Walter, but armor is included.
I was referring to the mount ledeper used because from what I read, I got the impression that just the guns were used in a twin mount (without any turret so armor would not be included).

Your calculations is pretty much the same as what I got when working with those figures.

Wanna know what's really scary (Kinda)? If 9 2x8" turret installations are only $0.03/HY what do you think I have when it's $3.19/HY to cover MY coastal artillery?  :o ;D :D

You forgot "decorated with diamonds." :)

Speaking of coastal batteries - I think I have some on Malta ... groan ... now I have to sift through the whole forum to find them ... I think they could be 24cm calibre ... groan ...

If it's such a problem, you could decide to blow them up, then start over.  ;)

Bugger! I figured weights/cost for ALL my coastal guns, even those UNDER the 5" requirement. IF I only do the ones larger than 5", it's only:

15cm 20t each 12 total 240t
28cm 217t per twin turret 2 total 434t
35cm 552t per twin turret 1 total 552t
17cm 50t each 12 total 600t

Total weight= 1826t, or $1.826 for cost.
Upkeep= 2.5% of cost = $0.04565 or $ 0.05/HY

SO, I've only been overpaying by $3.14 for like 3yrs.  Nice.... I must have figured the total wrong anyway, cuz there is no way that the misc 105mm, 88mm, 37mm, etc.. cost $3.14.

Nah. Just blame the Swiss. ;D

Ahoj!
Seems I keep on losing those guns and finding them again :)
And you are saying I am to pay upkeep for such stuff?

Ok - I have two batteries, each with three landed turrets. The turrets are 24cm twins.

So, how much do I have to pay for that?

Thank you. So, 0,002$ for 12x24cm guns - that's really silly money.

I get 316 tons for three turrets

This is how I would have described and purchased the CD Guns.

240mm: 3xTwin Turrets (7"/6" Armor)

Old Guns: 316 Tons; Old Armor: 326 Tons
Refit Guns/Refurb Turret: $0.032/$0.065 Install: $0.642/0.642BP
Actual Cost: $0.675/0.707BP(each)
Upkeep Cost(each-$0.632 Base): $0.032/$0.016/$0.008
Upkeep Cost(each-$0.316 Base): $0.016/$0.008/$0.004

Total Purchase Cost: $1.350/1.414

How I get there...
Old Guns: 316 Tons(weight of guns in ss report)
Old Armor: 326 Tons(weight of armor in ss report)
New Guns: if new these would cost $0.632/0.316BP
New Armor: if new this would cost $0.326/0.326BP
Refit Guns: 10% Gun cost
Refurb Turrets: 20% Armor cost($) I would imagine the turrets would need to be refurbished at a minimum
Install: all $ and weights added up

I have been using the higher Upkeep base(2xGun Weight) as written in the rules it would be gun weight only(half).

BTW- Barbette Armor does not matter as no freeboard height give no weight.

This is around the fourth time I have contributed to or started posts trying to establish what CDs Cost. Obviously the rules don't make sense since many have a different take on how to implement them. I would appreciate if we could finally agree on this, and rewrite them.

Using other methods than that above, Russia had overspent about $30 on her CD defenses.
