ooc : The way I see it, the 1906 defection of the Friuli region from the Hapsburgs to Bavaria accomplished some very important goals for the people there. The traditional problems with the Hapsburgs dating back to the 1700s were solved, while the risk of loosing their regional identity in a greater Italy was avoided. The Kingdom of Bavaria was relatively distant, fairly neutral, and had a more decentralized structure than the Hapsburgs, but had enough strength to shelter under.  The Treaty of Venice finished this political goal, by separating the region as culturally distinct and moving it up a notch politically.

However, the old status as primary port of the Hapsburgs was lost, and the dockyard work associated also went away. Times should have been tough from 1906-1914.  Completion of the second railroad, the money invested in building the Treviso line, and the handful of ships for the new Bavarian navy helped, but the area was still adjusting.

With Lugwig III's advent, and the Treaty of Venice, and the new commitment of the Bavarian govt. to keep founderies and dockyards near capacity via foreign orders, the region should have recovered substantially. The French orders, even if the individual Mushrooms were small, are more visible than most economic aspects, meant years of steady work and came at the beginning of the uplift, probably getting extra credit as a result. As such, there should be a fair amount of regional awareness and appreciation.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

For the first time since the spring, there has been a border disturbance with the Ukraine. The II Uhlan Squadron, 231st Battalion, XXVI Division were vectored by the Border Guard to intercept a Ukrainian patrol near Czissowa. Rittmeister Dietrich von Choltitz successfully captured the Ukrainian contingent without  incident.  The Ukrainians claimed they had missed the border markings while following the trace of sleighs, believe to be those of smugglers, through the border hills.  The XXVI Division headquarters relates that the Ukrainians were held 24 hours before being escorted back across the border. A protest regarding the border incursion will be lodged.
