While the Deutsches Kaiserreich Brandenburg regrets the incident between the our vessel and an Anahuac ship, the facts indicate that the Anahuac vessel, which was at the time unidentified, was not fired upon until it opened fire upon Fürst Bismarck itself, without identifying itself or challenging our vessel.

The actions of Fürst Bismarck in "sinking" your vessel (which was last observed to be very much afloat) were undertaken in self-defense. We are willing to accept that, in time of war such as you are in, such cases of mistaken identity can occur.

We do not wish for there to be war between our great nations, however the DKB does not pay ransoms. There will be no "reparations" for this incident, not a single pfennig.

OOC: Getting two aggressive nations even more involved in the situation may not be the best international policy when one is already involved in a relatively balanced war. But, as far as I know, it not my funeral.

With the recent breaking of the siege of Brithomber, the King found a copy of the ultimatum of Emperor Montezuma XX to the government of New Switzerland extremely amusing. "Why anger the wolves and crows when the trolls are at your door?" the king is reported to have asked the Swiss diplomate in relation to the ultimatum. "Only a fool or a wizard would gather more of his enemy before him. I hope he is a fool."
