The Gondorian Advisor for Public Relations in Edoras related that the fighting along both borders of New Beleriand have lessened in the last week. Several eoreds have been brought up from the reserves to bolster the lines, and others are said to be preparing for an offensive into the Empire's Realms.

April 5, 1899

Reports from the Advisor of Naval Affairs says that Modoc, Teton, and Klamath, Cruisers of the Mark, have beem attempting to track down an elusive Anahuac raider in the Central Pacific. This raider is believed to be responcible for the destruction of five freighters in the last three months. No word as to which Anahuac vessel this is that is preying on Wesron shipping.

April 10, 1899

Reports from Brithombar Naval Base suggest that the Fleet has set forth to intercept a sighting of Southern Saruman warships reported by fisherman Sunday. Balin, Erebor, and the torpedo boats have remained to defend the harbor.

April 13, 1899

Gollum!! Those treacherous Sarumans have invaded Brithombar from the sea. The Fleet is still out though Balin has been shelling enemy positions starting late last night. The Eoreds of Serni House defend the city and have begun digging earthenworks to keep out the Enemy. Forces from House Filigod and House Magirius are reportedly counter attacking.

April 18, 1899

The King has sent word that the Army of Rohan will go to New Beleriand. All forces that can be spared will assemble under the banner of the Third Marshal of the Mark and set forth as soon as possible.

April 23, 1899

The Fleet from Brithombar has returned to Eglarest for resupply. The threat of torpedoes has been estimated as being too high near the mouth of the harbor. Tarcil, Combat Cruiser of the Mark, and sister to the valiant Valandil continues to shell Anahuac positions along with fire from Balin, which is still bottled up inside the harbor.

April 27, 1899

With Anahuac troops pressing with their artillery fire, Balin and the rest of the trapped fleet made a run at the harbor mouth. Erebor and the torpedo boats managed to slip out, but Balin struck a torpedo just a mile outside the harbor. The ships crew managed to bring the vessel in two miles down the coast from Brithomber and beached the great warship. The cannons of the Balin roared with spite as the Enemy closed on its position, bringing up larger artillery pieces. Within hours the battleship was a fiery wreck. What was left of her crew died to deny the enemy the vessel by blowing up the ship's magazine. The blast is said to have broken glass in the Grand Stables Inn some ten miles away.

May 4, 1899

"The line is broken", reports the Marshals to the press. It seems less then a week ago the Anahuac pressed the Northern Line on New Beleriand with untold numbers of troops and with so many eorods pulled to defend Brithomber, the line broke.

May 12, 1899

With as much fanfare as possible, the Narmacil, Combat Cruiser of the Mark, was launched today. The vessel is expected to spend three months on trails and fitting out, but then the remainder of the normal six months will be on combat trails, hunting raiders in the Pacific Ocean. Shipbuilders expect Elfwine to join its smaller cousin in the water in two to three months time. Lady Oyama says that Rohan will probably not build another full combat cruiser during the war (unless Romendacil gets finished in New Beleriand), and that the next cruiser to be built will be a second Orodruin-class vessel later this year with an improved verision sometime in the next year or two.

May 28, 1899

The Army of Rohan sets forth to battle the Evil Southern Saruman. Yesturday three micelhusl of infantry and two micelhusl of calvary steamed out of North Mithlond to engage the enemy in his own lands.

June 4, 1899

Methedras, Cruiser of the Mark, is overdue to report in on her hunt for another raider in the South Pacific. Elendur's and Caradhras's captains reported that the cruiser was heading for Christmas Island on May 20th to follow up a hunch the ship's captian had. The cruiser was suppose to meet up again with Elendur near the Sandwich Islands this last Thursday to begin the long steam back to Ammon-In-Gelydh. Until evidance is found, she will be listed as missing in action.

June 11, 1899

Two micelhusl worth of Gondorian Infantry is reported to have been destroyed by Anahuac forces, both along the northern Mosquito Coast and in Brithomber. A micehusl of calvary is also said to be decimated around Brithomber. Reports that a second push of Anahuac forces from their southern regions has pressed far inland past Eglarest and is attempting to link up with the army around Brithomber.

June 26, 1899

Bully! The Army of Rohan has charged the line at Brithomber and broken the siege. On June 16th the army arrived in Vinyamar and quietly offloaded. With all due haste the Army moved from Vinyamar to Brithomber, all the while trying to hid from the enemy. Surprise was on Rohan's side when the dawn attack came to the enemies northern flank, the last place they's expect an attack. The calvary charged was supported by artillery fire.

June 28, 1899

Gondorian reserve micelhusl out of Minas Harthad have met the force from the south and have manged to stop its advance northward about 30 miles south of Brithomber. And while the Army of Rohan is still engaged with the Anahuac Army of the North, the enemies navy continues to shell Brithomber in an attempt to make an openning in the Rohirrim lines to reengage the siege.

June 30, 1899

The Marshal of the Eastern Seas said the Caribbean Fleet has regrouped. Captain Harlock's cruiser Eldacar being the last ship to arrive. Goldwine and Theoden will probably be sent on a sortie in the near future, as will the cruiser forces. With Gondorian forces out of Eglarest trying to cut the supply line to the Enemies Southern Army, the Fleet and forces of Rohan will likely attempt to brake the blockade of Brithomber and end the siege. Reports suggest that Captain Harlock has plans of his own....he always does.

"Now that's a blast!" said Freathon Ute, Munitions Developer at the Isengard Test Range Tuesday. The test fire of the new 14"/42 caliber rifle was a qualified success, throwing a shell a great distance down range. "Now to build something so we can use these on the next model of battleship"

I assume you're using the old meaning of 'torpedo' (i.e. mines).

Any idea how long a passenger vessel would take to get from Port Moresby (a/k/a Brandenburg) to Central America? (Leigon Kondor departed 8 May)

Yes Rohan still calls mines, "torpedoes". The newer phrase has not yet taken hold.

Port Moresby (a/k/a Brandenburg) to Central America (Colon, Panama in this case, but its close enough):
42 days, 16 hours at 8 knots
34 days, 3 hours at 10 knots
28 days, 11 hours at 12 knots
Distance is roughly 8,200 nautical miles
How fast can a liner move going those distances in 1899?
They will lose at least a day per stop I'd think to put on coal, and give the poor hands that have to shovel it a break.

(Day of the King)

Today we remember the kings of old. But with the war in New Beleriand growing darker, thoughts drift to the war kings. Those that fought long, and those that died in war. The King today said that the Army of Rohan will break the siege of Brithomber if the Armies of Gondor, the Mosquito Coast, and New Beleriand cannot. He has not given up hope and knows the Southern Saruman cannot defeat Rohan, as they do not have an army large enough to come to Edoras. The King's worry is about those that might take advantage of the war should the Armies of Rohan go in greater number to New Beleriand. Only time will tell how Theocro (III) King will be thought of on future Days of the King.
