Treaty With Rohan
January 4rd 1899

Mr. Wys signed a Commercial & Non Agression Treaty with Rohan. It is expected that this treaty will prevent any conflict over California.

Independance Day!
January 9th 1899

Another Independance Day has arrived! Have fun and watch the fireworks!

Long Live New Switzerland!

Loch Ness Monster Strikes!
January 9th 1899

Captain Sawyer and the crew of Nessie celebrated Independance Day in a more explosive manner. An unindentified ship attacked one of the merchant she was escorting. After a short running fight the enemy ship was destroyed. There were only four injuries aboard Nessie including the captain who was injured in the leg. It is not known at this time if the vessel was a Pirate or an Anahuac Warship.

(OOC: This is just a plain pirate ship)

Mystery Ship
January 11th 1899

It appeares that the Dynamite Ship is dead. Apperantly the explosion has put an end to it. The mystery is why the ship is still being built. Security at Olympia Shipyard is at an all time high. Strangely the Goverment denies that any explosion took place. But it appears that Mr. Zalinski has been fired, altought he is currently missing.

Round the World Trip
January 12th 1899

Today Phoenix arrive in Dar Es Salam, late as usual. Officialy the Goverment has said that engine problems have slowed them down, but they have just received repairs. It has also come to our knowledge that there are four SAF Squads on board, what they're doing is anyones guess. The next stop is expected to be Walvis Bay, at the rate they're going, they might arrive there next century.

Naval Excercise Follow Up
January 15th 1899

The excercise will be over on Febuary 1st, further information will be provided after that date.

The Goverment has released a list of forces participating in the Excercises:
Constitution Group
Coastal Defence Squadron
3 Torpedo Squadrons
2 Coast Guard Squadrons

(Note: Information on composition is available in the Yearbook)

Let the speculations begin! wink.gif

By my arithmetic, that's around a 21" dynamite gun, depending on Mr. Zalinski's build.

Oh, he was dismissed, not shot from a gun? How foolish of me; the latter would be far preferable.

Febuary 1899 Edition

Russia to Remove Troops!
January 17th 1899

Russia has leased 11 transports to removed her troops from Australia. At Russia's request the 1st Desert Calvary Division will move into central Australia to mantain order.

Phoenix & Co. arrived on time!
Febuary 1st 1899

The Phoenix Group arrived today in Walvis Bay. For once, they are on schedule. They will leave on Feb 4th for Liberia, we'll see if they can arrive on time.

Loch Ness Monster Strikes! (follow up)
Febuary 9th 1899

It has been confirmed that the ship sunk by Nessie was a pirate. The ship was seen flying the flag of Anahuac, but its tactics did not confirm with known Anahuac tactics. The prisioners captured in the engagement confirmed the fact that this was no Anahuac warship.

Luke "Crashes" Party!
Febuary 15th 1899

Young Skywalker has created quite a "splash". His flying entrance, into the party hosted by Prince William celebrating the succesful conclusion of the Excercise, ended in the "drink", literaly. Apperantly a gust of wind blew farther than expected, right into the refreshment stand. Unfurtunatley Mr. Skywalker was not available for comment, since he was at this time being chase around the grounds by his sister, Princess Leia. Fortunatley no one was injured in the incident. However Auk IV didnt have such a happy ending; Its life ended in a funeral pyre. No date has been given for Auk ver 5.0

This is Ennesby reporting live from Olympia.

Mystery Ship (follow up)
Febuary 20th 1899

Rumors, theories, conspiracies, etc. have already sprung up around the ship. They range from possible to just plain impossible. We have asked Mr. Andresyvan for an interview, concerning his view that the ship carries a new sort of weapon. (coming soon)

List of current theories:
Torpedo Cruiser using stolen 19.7" torpedos.
Nautilus
Heat Rays (Mr. Andresyvan)
Invisible ship using Tesla Coils
Fireship

"Foolish Skywalkers. Don't they know man can't fly".

I'd almost say Mr. Oyama was haunting the waves, but he'd be helping Rohan if he was out doing piracy with his lady-friend. Besides, piracy is his friend Harlock's job...and he's operating in the Caribbean Sea....hunting raiders from the bridge of a Rohirrim Combat Cruiser.

It does seem the tension in Australia is lifting somewhat, but then the Pacific Pirates could be anyplace....

I'm sure you do.

But then after this little (little?) war I'm in, I don;t yet konw what direction Rohan will go in, or be involved with. So nothing is simple in this world.

Naval Excercise Brief Summary
Most information will remain classified (Im just too lazy)

The Excercise was divided into 2 main parts. There was a purely Naval engagement between the Constitution and Alaska groups. During the night, torpedo squadrons conducted torpedo attacks on both groups. The second part was an amphibious operation. The ships providing fire support.

Results:
Ship to Ship Gunnery: Excellent
Ship to Shore Gunnery: Poor
Shore to Ship Gunnery: Poor
Night Torpedo Attacks: Excellent
Anti-Torpedo Defence: Poor
Troop Transportation to Beach: Poor

Highlights & Comments

COnsidering the reputation of Swiss gunners, rumored to be able to drop a 12" shell into a dingy from 10,000 yards, the fact that they coudnt hit the broad side of a barn at 3,000 yards is a cause of concern. That they cant hit a large stationary target at point blank range is....strange. The only fact that redeem them is that shore gunners weren't any better.

The torpedo squadrons consider themselves an elite unit. They have a right to do so. They faced the veteran destroyers with Alaska, and the new Wys class destroyers screening Constitution. They managed to penetrate both screens and scored hits on both Constitution and Alaska. They maneged this at night and outnumbered. We congratulate our torpedo men.

Commander Ward stands out. He led 5 Torpedo boats on an attack on Constitution. He faced 6 Wys class DDs and 1 LC. He managed to penetrate this screen at night, scoring a hit on Constitution, while only losing 1 TB.

Plenty of lessons were learned during the amphibious operations. The first and main one is that current transportation methods are woefully inadequate. The troops are excellent, but how to get them ashore and keep them supplied is a problem. Unfortunatley there is no boats capable of doing this mission. Fire support as mentioned earlier is also poor. We can only hope that our troops will not be called upon to do an amphibious assault against defended positions without these problems being resolved.

Fortunately there was only one accident. Captain Sullivan once again demonstrates his talent for finding obstacles the hard way. During the Naval part of the Excercise the NSS Fritz(damage=10%) rammed PT-13(damage=20%) while both where manuvering in a smoke screen. Luckly there where no deaths and no bad injuries in either ship. Both ships survived the collision: PT-13 barely making it to harbor.

Captain Sullivan, his helmsman and perhaps his navigator might be up for discharge if they keep this up....or just a court marshal and reduction in rank or type of ship so as they won't damage the nations better cruisers.

Perhaps Capt. Sullivan is the Oonishi Manzo of Navalism?

If so, DKB coastal gunners will be issued orders to shoot on sight... tongue.gif

BTW, almost forgot...

Why do you think he commands a Destroyer.

The problem is that he's an excellent tactician, and the Fritz has the best gunnery scores for light ships. Also all accidents have been unavoidable.

Not really. He might be for ships. But true Manzo Jr made his entrance elsewhere.
