 Constitution Commisioned!
January 9th, 1898

Today in a ceremony attended by the president, the NSS Constitution was formally commisioned into the New Swiss Navy. She is considered the biggest, fastest, and best looking ship in the world. She is the first of 4 sister ships to be launched, in the 5 Year Navy Plan. Also commisioned with Constitution where the first two destroyers of the Johann Wys class, NSS Wys & NSS Van Winkle.

The Port Arthur Problem.
January 15th, 1898

The addition of Port Arthur to the Russsian Empire is considerd a threat to National Security, and especially to the Korean colony. The Goverment of New Switzerland protests the addition of Port Arthur. The Goverment of New Switzerland has closed the Tsushima Strait to Russian warships and is prepared to use force to enforce it. The closure will remain in effect until Russia removes all armed forces from the Lianing Penninsula.

Australia
April 5th 1898

New Switzerland recognizes the DKB's claim to the lands in Australia, and welcomes our new neighbors.

On related news:
New Switzerland hereby claims the coastal region of Australia.
Located west of NSW, South of 30 S, and east of 135 W; including Adelaide.
To safegaurd the new additions against The Evil Empire(France), NS will dispatch
NSS Australia, some light vessels, and the new Desert Calvary Division to Australia.
A friendly visit to Brandenburg might also be in the making.

Russia & the Tsushima Strait
April 5th 1898

The talks on the Non-Aggresion Treaty are going on, and it appears the treaty will be ratified soon. The ban on warships over 10,000T will be removed when the treaty is ratified.
New Switzerland considers the Tsushima Strait Territorial Waters and as sich retains the right to close it if National Security is at stake.

Loch Ness Monster Joins New Swiss Navy!
April 1st, 1898

Today the Light Crusier NSS Nessie of the Pegasus class was launched. Two more Wys class destroyers were also launched with her.

Ship Commisioning Ceremony
April 5th, 1898

The first two Heavy Crusiers were formaly commisioned today.
NSS Sirus(ex Constellation) and NSS Canis Major(ex Antares) joined the Navy. Canis Major has already aquired a nickname, the crew calling her The Big Dog. They will form the core of two groups in the South Pacific tasked with providing foward defence against the Evil Empire.

Also the first 4 Pegasus class Light crusiers: Pegasus, Minotaur, Griffin, and Kraken were commisioned.

The ceremony was attended by the Vice President and his wife, Mr & Mrs Van Winkle.

Foreign Relations
April 9th, 1898

A treaty regarding Coaling Rights with Belgium has been finalized. New Switzerland has received coaling rights in Singapore and posibly other places.
In exchange Belgium has receive rights in Sydney and other Australian cities.

It is expected that the Non Agression Treaty with Russia to be signed later this month.

New Switzerland also joins other countries in protesting the barbaric attitude of the Anahuacs.

A round the world trip by NSS Phoenix and NSS Pegasus is in the making. Details will follow at a later time.

National Declaration

The people of New Switzerland are exiles, we have been driven from their homelands time & time again.
Now the Caliph has threatend us. It is a direct threat to our most important state outside of New Switzerland.

Let the people of the World know, that From where the Sun now stands we will retreat NO more.

Honor Ceremony

Captain Johacim Kidd, famous for his exploits while commanding the privateer Adventure against the French, will be promoted to Fleet Captain. He is currently Constitution's Captain. He will be in charge of the 1st Squadron: consisiting of the Constitition, Wys, Van Winkle, & Griffin.

Mr. Taschovitch, the scientist in charge of the Propulsion department, has been recognized for his service. The Wys class DD used for research will be renamed in his honor.

In other related news, scientists in other departments are protesting what is apperently a glitch in the Postal Service. When their paychecks where apperantly mailed to the Propulsion Department.

The Australian Crisis

Goverment position
the goverment of NS has decleared that it will not hesitate to defend Australia.
It protests the Caliph's actions, and calls for the Calph to desist in its hostile actions.

Militia Callup
All militia in Australia must be on readines you might be called on a moments notice.
Some of you might be called up. It is the plan to have 3 divisions ready by month's end. The rest of you will remain in reserve.

Military Deployment
The stop in Brandenburg by NSS Australia was canceled. NSS Australia and the 2nd Desert Calvary Division arrived in Sydney yesterday.

NSS Sirus & NSS Minotaur are headed for New Amsterdam. NSS Canis & NSS Kraken are on their way to Port Blair togheter with a regular infantry brigade.

The Constitution group togheter with NSS Phoenix & NSS Olympia will leave for Hong Kong as soon as their ready.

A visit to German East Africa by NSS Sydney & NSS Pegasus is being planned. It will be checked with the DKB goverment to see if its fine.


Foreign Relations

New Switzerland supports the Nethterlands claim in South Australia.

As most of you know, the Non Aggresion Treaty with Russia has been signed.

New Switzerland has bought 4 HBPs from the Skoda Works.

Follow Up on Australian Crisis

"We stood on the brink. Not only that but now I have more grey hairs. Thank God we didnt resort to arms." the President said in a speech to the Nation. The recent standoff with the Caliph over Australia has frayed some nerves. What was a minor affair almost turned into a war. Apperantly some of our more "aggresive" officers wanted an excuse to try their new toys. They have been sent to chart the Auletians. Lets see if that will cool their heels.
The Goverment of New Switzerland apologizes to the Caliph for any misunderstandings.

Follow Up on Military Deployments

The callup of Australian Millitia has been canceled. Some units will remain in readiness in case of the Evil Empire waking up.

The deployment of the Constitution group to Hong Kong has been canceled. The group will remain in home waters.

NSS Anchorage will be deployed to San Fransisco, to keep an eye on the current crisis in Central America.

After a series of mistarts due to the crisis, NSS Phoenix, Pegasus and a collier, have left for German East Africa. They will probably stop in Singapore for a frendly visit in the way. It is hope that this is the start of the canceled world cruise.

Captain Littlestone has taken the NSS Atlanta in a cruise to chart two small islands in the Indian Ocean, and check their suitability as coaling bases.

Other deployments will remain as scheduled.

Navy News

Two more Wys class DDs have been launched, together with a Pegasus class cruiser.

The experimental submarine NSS Holland was also lanched. The Navy sees great future in this submersible boats. But for now they are usefull only for research.

The Constitution group will conduct a series of excercices in Homewaters. This will be Captain Kidd's first test as a Fleet Captain.

Foreign Relations

Rumors have appeared of a possible Non-Agression Treaty with the Netherlands. When aproached,the Goverment came with a No Comment reply.

After two consecutive war scares, the people of NS do not desire a further war. If war erupts between Rohan and the Anauhac Empire New Switzerland will remain neutral. Althought public opinion supports Rohan, as it appears that Anauhac's aggression is another of the Evil Empire's plans to rule the world.

The Goverment of New Switzerland calls for a cease of hostilities between Rohan and the Anauhac Empire. New Switzerland is willing to meditate between both parties to avoid war.

I don't know if any negotiations will work in this situation....I mean the Rohirrim have been known to be stubborn..but the Anahuac have been know the make offering to the gods out of the "round eyes"....be they European decent or from the Westron speakers.

October-December 1898 Edition

Rumors True!

A Non Aggresion Treaty With the Neatherlands was signed on September 15th by Deputy Foreign Affairs Director Hans Brinks. It is hoped that this is the start of a long frienship with the Kingdom of the Neatherlands.

The Round the World Cruise

NSS Phoenix was delayed a few days in Taipei While the Deputy Director signed the Treaty. What the Deputy Director was doing on board the Phoenix is anyones guess. Rumors have already spread that this is no pleasure cruise. The main one being that the real purpose off the trip is a Mutual Assistance Pact with the Baltic Confederacy. The Goverment denies that the trip has any political significance.
It is expected that the Phoenix will arrive around the First of October in Singapore.

Russia Violates Treaty!

The ink has barely dried on the treaty with Russia, and now they have violated it. Russian Troops in Australia & Pacific Islands violates Article II, Part 1 of the Russian-NS Non Agression Treaty. Policeman or no policeman, the Russians have no business in Australia. If the Evil Empire cant take care of its territories why does it claim them. Let the French take care of their territory if they can. If the Russians do not remove their troops from Australia, it will be considered a willful violation of the Treaty, and as such the Treaty will no longer be in effect.

Naval Excercise

All ships currently in home waters including the Constitution group, together with the NSEF will conduct military excercises of the coast of NKorea in the Yellow Sea. The purpose of this excercises will be to try out the new Warships, to test the ability of the NSEF to carry out Amphibious landings, and to see how well amphibious landings can be resisted.

Designer Fired

The chief designer of the Constitution & Sirus/Antares class ships has been fired.
Apperantly he tought the current slips could only hold ships shorter than 500 feet.
Unfortunately this led to overweight, underperforming ships. The last 4 ships of the Constitution class together with the Antares class will be lengthen. Constitution herself and the Sirus class might be upgraded at a later time. Althought lenghtening the ships won't help with weight, it will allow higher speeds and a lower fuel comsumption for a given HP.

Australia

The addition of new territory has led to Australia being recognized has a major administrative region. A new flag for Australia has been chosen (design shown below). Also New South Wales aquired statehood.

Micellanious News

One special Alpine Infantry Brigade from Alaska will be transfered to Korea.

NSS Anchorage arrive in Anchorage on October 2nd. Its expected that she will arrive in San Fransisco around October 14th.

A commercial treaty with Rohan is in the works. More to follow at later time.

Captain Littlestone has finished his survey of the Islands. Construction of a coaling base in Keeling Island will begin in November.

There are unconfirmed reports that "Foxes" units have move into Manchuria.

The Navy has released preliminary Drawings of the Vesuvius class SG.

NS has bought 1,000t of material from the Skoda works.

Arms deal with Skoda Works

Secretary of Defense Johann Wys signed a contract with the Skoda Works. In it NS will buy 1,000t of material per quarter for 1 year. The Skoda Works will receive in exchange 2 MBP, 2 LBP per quarter for 1 year.

Explosion in Arms Factory!

An explosion was reported in the Arms Factory in Olympia. From pieces put together from different sources, it appeares that one of the new 14" Dynamite Guns has exploded. The Goverment denies any explosion, and no casualty reports have been made public.

Treaty with Rohan!

Mr. Wys departed December 15th on board NSS Nessie. He is on his way to San Fransisco to sign a Commercial and Non Agression Treaty with Rohan. The Treaty is expected to be signed on January 3rd.

Round the World Cruise

The Phoenix group arrived in Singapore a bit overdue on October 9th. After a stay of a few days in Singapore, Phoenix & Pegasus left for Port Blair. Fortunately ther where no major problems in Singapore.

Phoenix and Pegasus received some minor repairs, and a new paint job while in Port Blair. There are also reports of a secrete carg........"ominous silence"

The Phoenix group left Port Blair on November 21st bound for German East Africa. If no delays are present they shoud arrive by New Year.

Russian Treaty Violation

New Switzerland demands that all Russian Forces be removed from Australia & French Polynesia. If Russian Forces are not removed, the Treaty will be considered null and void. A blockade of Australian ports supporting Russian forces will go into effect on Febuary 1st, if Russian forces are not removed by deadline.

Warning!

The Naval Excercises will be conducted using Live Ammunition. A 30 mile danger zone is in effect around ships participating in the excersice. New Switzerland will not be responsible for foreign ships damaged within this zone.

This is an official warning.

War!

War has been declared between Rohan and the Anahuac Empire!
Once again the Evil Empire has placed its dirty hands in someone else business. The people of New Switzerland give its support to the Kingdom of Rohan.

Official Goverment Response

The Goverment of New Switzerland condems this act of aggression by the Anahuc Empire. The Goverment declares New Switzerland neutral in the war, but any French involvment will bring NS into the war.

4 Sailing Cruisers: Atlanta, Treton, Taipei, and Melbourne will join Nessie and Anchorage in California.

Where are you going to be having this live fire excercise?

You got to be careful with them explosives....you don't want to end up with a reputation for blowing up your own ships.

Does your Phoenix Group intend to come as far north as Rohan or New Beleriand on your round the world tour? It might be dangerous, but a showing the flag could be useful for later.

Any "offical" French involvement I would imagine. Unofficial involvement might be hard to prove, and trade between France and Anahuac might remain open unless Rohan begins to try a blockade or sends out raiders themselves....but that will depend on what the responce from the other nations of the world is, including France.

Of course you might have a war of your own soon, if the tension in Australia doesn't subside. Of course that might simmer for a time before Russia and the Swiss decide its worth the lives to take the small continent, or potentally other places that belong to one or the other (or France, or a Swiss ally).

I wonder how the Hapsburg will respond to the wars, or if they will see it as a chance to profit selling arms.

Th live fire excercise is going to be conducted of the coast of North Korea in the Yellow Sea.

At the rate they're going theyll get there in time for Rohan-Anahuc War II.

Desertfox, you couldn't fire in 30 miles zone in the northern Yellow sea:

1. The most distance for firing that time was 20 miles
2. The Northern Yellow sea is a border territory. So, that your exersises is a step to violation and conflicts with Russia. And it is dangerous just now not only for both of us - here in the world where every country has three or four parts obligatives...

There are always freaks & there will be plenty of smoke, so 30mi should be an adequate safety margin. I just want to make sure no one gets hurt (no one spies on excercise)

All ships participating will stay at least 30mi from Russian & foreign territorial waters. So there shouldnt be conflict.
