The Burma issue would have served as a warning sign to Siam that the RRC was agressive and looking to expand. 

I think that the threat from the RRC  is vastly overestimated. After all it got what it wanted from Burma; Recognition, and to show that unlike the alien Qing regime it do not bend over to appease foreigners at the expense of the Han. Legitimacy is more important to the RRC then territory.

But really there has been a huge overreaction to that small border skirmish IMO.
