I've added the new method for calculating optimal condition top speed for ships built to Destroyer standards there, including the new calculator.

I'd say the rule still does not discourage people to build mini-cruisers under the destroyer rule, the only difference being a marginally less bonus (i.e. 1.0kts instead of 1.2kts). A lower limit of machinery weight is still necessary.

The 'round to nearest half know' can also be abused, i.e. designing the ship to be 31.76kts, saving several tons to a ship with 32kts.

Just for my edification:

Is this the first time you've seen this? I posted it in the Naval Discussion thread in February 28.

IIRC the second time, but had no time to check it first.

The reason I asked was that it is almost completely derived from your ideas posted in that thread, so I'm surprised now that you have substantial objections. Or is it just still the issue that you want an arbitrary minimal machinery weight?

Round to half knot can be abused, to the tune of, well, a half knot. This is something we're prepared to live with, and a concession to those among us that prefer relatively round numbers. I personally don't want to step in the middle of the usual tension between the 4-decimal-place-precision-crowd and the integers-were-invented-for-a-good-reason-dammit-crowd. That check box is the compromise there.

Your prudence is well founded - this group has ardent cultists of both lines of thought :D
