About digesting foreign techs.

HY2/14 Sachmle declared having completed one HY digesting several foreign techs. H1/15 they will be completely digested, H2/15 those techs will be available for NUS use.

Situation: I intend to lay down some DDs of the A-class in H1/15. They will be completed mid HY2/15. Those are to be fitted with ASW equipment, but the tech won't be available until H2/15.

The question is...the ships are modelled with them in the misc weight, will be in construction while the equipment is not available, but completed when it is available. Being equipment of easy emplacement (deck rails and the DCs themselves), I would think this way of building them would be according to the rules. Please yell at me if it's not the case :)

The building rules do speak to what things can be added part-way through construction - I think ASW may be one of them.

Shipbuilding Technology
In most cases, the technology used in a ship must be completed prior to the half-year in which the ship itself is laid down.

There are a few exceptions, in which a ship's design can be modified without penalty, so long as:

1)  The technology is completed prior to the half-year in which the ship is launched
2)  If the modification adds weight to the design, there is either a "construction reserve" of miscellaneous weight that can be reduced to compensate or simple external fittings (deck mounted weapons) that can be omitted.

These exceptions are technologies that have limited physical impact on the ship, or affect components installed late in the construction of the ship:

Torpedo (above-deck installations only)
Mine Warfare (type of paravanes installed only)
ASW Warfare (type and number of depth charges only)
Night-Fighting
Range-Finding, Fire Control and Gunnery
Radar
Anti-Aircraft Guns

Ahhh screw it, think I got it. didn't notice the laid down/ launched difference between both cases.

According to the rules, I can do it. I just have to delay the launching until H2/1915. Not a prob...the destroyers will be completed in H2/1915 anyway, just a bit later ;).
