B-17 Liberty Belle visits Atlanta

The B-17 Liberty Belle visited Atlanta the last two weekends, and I finally was able to take my little one out to see it today. So, now "Airplane!" has replaced "Choo choo!" as his exclamation of choice at least for a while ;-)

My son (who's named Sean) is the little guy in black and red fuzzy hat. He was completely into the entire experience, including the noise when the fired up all four motors, but got a little bit scared when we actually walked through the plane.

Liberty Belle has been flying in and out of Peachtree-Dekalb Airport, which is the main general aviation airport in Atlanta, and only about 15 minutes from my house. They have a great viewing area, complete with a playground for the kids, and a shelter with picnic tables and bathrooms where the air traffic control audio is piped in. They park the plane right up next to that spot, and before the first trip of the day, we were able to tour and take photos, etc.

And that's right. I wrote "ride". If you can swing the price, you can take about a one hour ride on her. Sadly, Mrs. Guinness declared that to not be in the budget (it's around US $400).

Handsome little fellow and a beautiful old girl.
Damn shame I had to work today... I'd have happily driven the hour and a half or so to the ATL to get a glimpse of her.
