The new year began with the SMS Frankreich, SMS Jaeger and SMS Hussar going into drydock for their overhauls.

Also announced just after the new year is that the SMS Siligia has been lent to the Imperiale Marina, for evaluation of Habsburg naval technology. During this time it will be crewed by volunteers from the KKK, on appropriate leave.
The cruisers which had accompanied the battleship to Taranto returned to Habsburg waters, to Malta.

The Habsburg Kaiser-und-Koengreich ackowledges the need to punish New Zion for sponsorship of anarchist assasins.
Thus Habsburg subjects and citizens can volunteeer for service against that state without any hinderence from the authorities.

New Zion shipping is non grata in Habsburg ports. Military vessels will be turned away, unless they wish to enter port to be interned for the duration of the conflict. Civilian ships may enter port for humanirarian causes, or to take on provisions necessary to reach the nearest friendly port, and leave the soonest possible.

The two battleships - SMS Juan de Austria and SMS Tegetthoff together with three cruisers of the Kaiserin-und-Koenigin Marie Theresie class are already in South American waters, and should reach Desterro in less than a week.

The "Santissima Trinidade" Landwehr Korps in Parana has completed mobilisation. Thus the territory is now defended by close to 150,000 men, of which two thirds are Regulars (one corps of AFL Light Infantry, and one Korps of Kavallerie).

The Imperial-and-Royal Majesties, Stefan and Yelena, are reported to be having a good time in Sankt Peterburg. His Imperial Majesty has been seen trying to skate on the ice rink in front of the Winter Palace, with Her Imperial Hiughness Yelena his mentor. This is amid preparations for New Year Festivities, which will take place tommorrow, as Russia follows the Julian Calendar.

Munitions factories in the Habsburg Realms have began tooling for manufacture of small arms and artillery rounds in calibres not used by the Heer.

The Quartermaster's Office concluded a protracted investigation on the high incidence of perforated mess plates turned in by units in late 1912.
The conclusion was that the units with highest rate of punctured plates, 373,26% above peactime rates, where those involved in fighting in Serbia. Apparently the plates had been abused as improvised head covers in the face of Turkish artillery firing shrapnel. This practice has been condemned. The Material Replacement Office wrote a letter to Infantry Regiment Commanders with instructions to issue standing orders forbiding such a practice.

Ober-Feldwebel Miguel Duarte Flores Olivera was whistling happily. Legion to Fight, Legion to Die. The march in the heat of the Paranese Plateau made him think a bit of home, in Estramadura. And of the sport he used to have when posted to Aden. No, more of Estremadura, he corrected himself. No human and horse skulls impaled on stakes to mark the limit of Habsburg authority. He missed that posting ... to cheer his spirits he started bellowing his displeasure at one of the Portugues speaking softies from the Santissima Trinidade Landswehr Korps.
