And to think I almost added a pair of Mossad agents scoping the Pope for comic relief. But I do get a feeling that NZ will be blamed for this, and the Mossad will be sure to take credit for this (even if they didn't do it), secretly of course.

well on a positive note any Italia player faces the same problem I saw with invading NZ, Logistics would be a MOFO... (I kind of liked having them there to point guns at on ocasion to).  Besides im sure the NS will be blamed (we get blamed for everything dont we?).

Can't have the decency to kill the Pope when I'm not in a meeting, huh? :)

Killing the Pope, who is normally resident in France, in Italy, right after the end of a major war certainly has a wheels upon wheels upon wheels feel to it.

Still, jumping to the conclusion now that a nation state is behind it is probably premature.  Why not (for starters) a radical Italian group who sees this Pope as a puppet of France, and therefore illegitimate?

"DOWN!" Major Andrés El Alocado shoved the imperial party to the ground just before...

*BOOM*

The small explosion wasted itself against the front of the viewing stand and several Italian Guards.

"Andrés! What's going on?"  The Emperor demanded.

The Guardsman had his side arm out and was looking at the panicking crowd

*Bang* "I don't.." *Bang - ting* *Bang* "...clear sh.." *Bang*

A few seconds later the guardsman stood up on his knee to get a better look at what was going on with his Astra Automatic 9mm pistol readied, "Please your majesty stay down with the prince."

To the side a voice cried out "Il Papa! Il Papa!" Which was very close to the Spanish 'el papa' and easily understandable to the Iberian party.  Which point the crowd below turned into a mob.

"We need to get you out of here your Majesty, NOW!"

"I need to find out what's going on, let me up."

A young voice cried out, "Father what's happening?"

The Iberian Emperor stood up and looked at the slumped body of the pope and those desperately attempting to attend to him.  "Majesty we need to get you to safety there might be more."

The Admiral and General urged the Emperor to follow the guardsman's advice.

The growing panic and chaos below was interrupted to the side of the viewing stand as a group of Guardsmen in Iberian livery pushed their way across the viewing stands with swords and pistols drawn.

"Not till I know what's going on here..."

"And if their after the boy?"

A slow nod to the Major, "Get Fernando out of here, I need to talk to Stephan and others."

"Majesty..."

The Emperor cut him off with, "That's an order Major." Then turning to his son, "I need you to go with the Major Fernando he will take care of you."

"Father... I... m scared..."

"I know everything will be alright just go with the Major."

At last the Iberian guards arrived and the Lieutenant in charge took in the sight of the down Pope.  "Muslim bastards..."

The Major interrupted with, "Or an Anarchist or just someone who woke up today angry at the world; we will find out later.  Lieutenant you and two men will stay here to guard the Emperor and you are not relieved until I say you are.  Do you understand?"

"Yes Sir!"

The bulk of the party now surrounding the young prince quickly left the area while the Iberian Emperor and his three escorts made their way towards the Hapsburg Party.

How do you take credit for something without telling anybody?  Do the Mossad guys just smirk at each other in the hallway?

Good story so far - I'm waiting to see whether there's cause for a big tantrum in Gran Colombia.

miketr

Why would you want to take credit for something like this?!?

Catholics = Dead Jews -> Mossad = Dead Pope...

Plus some Mossad factions might want some more money, and what better way to get money than to show a 'succesful' operation?

So... when will the Crusade against New Zion start? :D

If the Mossad wants to target- or claiming targetting - the spiritual leader of France, Italy, Iberia, Gran Colombia, and a few other states, far be it for me to say you can't.

uhoh killing the pope = Bad, Somehow i'm sure the NS will be blamed for this, or the Muslims in which case even the NS might be forced to join the Holy Crusade against them (Eyes the other half of Australia thoughtfully)

The NS is very strongly anti-papist afaik.

True but it wouldnt automaticly make them dumb enough to kill him, lets face it the NS havnt had enough time to recover from the last war they sure as hell aint going to pick one with 4 or more major powers (not yet anyway)

To clarify, IMO the NS sentiment about the pope would be 'we could not care less'.
