Hi guys, thanks for the welcome. Except for when I was at work, or working on some Springstyle USN ships, I've been reading the massive wealth of info that is this board.

Darn it, I'm addicted already.  :D

I am interested in playing Egypt, since I see it's not developed or has a player. I already have ideas for her fleet and army running around in my head.

Desertfox

Welcome.

Egypt is a good choice, small enough to get a hang of the system but not small enough that you can't do anything. Egypt should already have a fleet, but since most ships are pre-1900, there will be plenty of leeway for you. With war brewing in the Med you can choose to stay neutral or join in.

Thanks, Desertfox. Those were precisely my reasons for choosing Egypt, along with a healthy addiction to Egyptian archeology and also an interest in late 19th century warships.

Here's, just to show some of the ships I've been drawing, a couple of ships based on USN Springstyles. (All still very WiP). I have rough SS's for the large BC, the BS, and the Indiana.

First up, the Tillman with the new cage masts I mostly finished today.

I'm still trying to figure out a good mast arrangement for this one, anyone think poles would suffice?

Thanks borys, Jef.

After mulling it over today, I'm definitely interested in playing Egypt. What information about it is available? Ships, bases, troop levels, technology, etc.

The Rock Doctor

There's probably not a lot of info posted, as we haven't had Egypt played on this board.  If you search on "Caliphate of Cairo", its previous affiliation, you may find some older data and info on what elements of the military Egypt inherited after the Caliphate broke apart.

Egypt's economic data can be found in the "World Economies" thread in the Infrastructure forum.

While I'm happy to have you interested, us Mods need to discuss Egypt a bit offline, as it had been the subject of a story (currently unresolved and dangling) by the (former?) Italian player.  We will need to establish the state of affairs between Egypt and Italy if you are to take over - not to mention technology and all that.

Talos

Roger that, no worries, I understand. I'll check out the info too, as well as reading up more on the economies of all the nations.

Borys

Talos, why Egypt?
There are IMO more interesting, or easier to play (stronger)  countries out there ...

Talos

Oh, there's a couple reasons that it's my first choice in nations to play. I'm a military brat and the nephew of an archaeologist, I've loved Egyptian history since I was a child and visited it when I lived in Saudi Arabia (incidentally, I work for the Army now as an intern). That's a big one, plus it's in an interesting political and economical position in the game (as well as in RL), with plenty of opportunities.

That does remind me, I know the Suez peninsula isn't in Egyptian hands, but what's the status of the canal?

Borys

Ahoj!
The way I understand it, the status of the Caal is similar to that of OTL, but with the French replacing the British.
Although the French OdeB does not list any troops in the Canal zone, it is an oversight when I helped Maddox draw up the French army. Assume a corps - 2 Infantry Divisions, with 50,000 troops - to be statined there.

France  rotates "corps" to guard the canal.
They are drawn from other locations to avoid people getting bored from guard/custom/law enforcing duties, and equaly important but not said, to avoid people settling and carving out a profitable niche for themselfs around the Suez Canal.

With a bit of luck, and a bit of help of the fresh views, I can get my navalism Flame rekindled.

Borys

Ahoj!
But it still would be nice to point out somehwere, that one of the ciorps from the Metropole is the Force in Egypt. Or did I miss it somewhere?
