Today the Queen in company with her husband and several foreign dignitaries opened the exposition to the public by cutting the cord across the entrance.

The grand palace can be seen in the background.

Central to the exposition in the Grand palace:

The grand palace contains several exhibitions, both of technical nature, but also a large zoo with tigers, crocodiles, lions and an elephant. In connection with the grand palace is the hall of machines, were several cutting edge industrial tools are on display.

Among the pavilions that are noticed are several from prominent cities in the Netherlands.
The huge Amsterdam pavilion is instantly recognisable:

There are also pavillions from Antwerpen and Lige.

Soldiers from the KNIL 32nd Recon battalion with traditional weapons together with representatives from the parliament.

In the colonial parts for the expo there can be found goods from all of the Netherlands colonies, such as chocolate from Flyssen.

There are also "human zoos" were visitors can see how people in the different parts of the world live.

Apart from displays of small arms one can also find their spectacular motorcycles.

Sharing space with FN is the Mij Feijenoord  Shipyard from Schiedam, who are putting some of their wares on display, here seen a 30,5/45 gun and a 38/L40 gun outside the pavilion.

July 2nd, 1912:

As part of the events and entertainment during the fair there was a football tournament staged between teams representing different countries. In the picture below we see the Dutch team (In read) composed of soldiers from the 9th Engineering battalion of the Malaysian corp., facing of against the "New Swiss" team (in yellow and blue).

The game ended with a clear Dutch victory, and several spectators happily expressed the view that the Swiss had gotten trampled (again).

The Bavarian contribution to the expedition. It has proved highly popular so far, despite stiff competition.

Btw, what would people like to see here from the expo, should i write more events, or go for pictures and short note as i have done so far? Or something else?

28 October 1912:
The planed closings of the expo on the first of November have been pushed forward due to a severe fire that swept the area during the 27-28 October.

The destruction of the grand palace, and several related exhibitions were total.

A large number of beast were killed in the fire, as the firemen and handlers did not dare to let the crocodiles, tiger, panther and lions out of their cages due to the large crowds that had gathered around the area.

Of the large numbers of beast, only the well trained elephants were saved.

The final extinguishing of the fire is expected to take at last a day extra; here seen is members of the Brussels fire brigade at work in the rubble.

Thankfully no humans were harmed in the fire.

The cause of the fire has of yet not been established, several Iberian-speaking individuals were reported at the scene, so foul play cannot be ruled out.
The investigation in the cause of the fire will be conducted by the head of the Brussels police personally:

While the turnout for the expo was less then hoped for, it did at least receive over 13 million visitors.

And that was less !?  Wildly successful I'd say. Nice pics.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
