It began IC, even before the Japanese joined the war, and would have continued even if I had remained. The Jap-Swiss alliance had nothing to do with me leaving. It was set in stone the minute it became clear that NS would not be allowed to keep the DEI.
What keeping the DEI? It was just a daydream. The Dutch offer of ceding the DEI was borne from the board members' OOC frustration of the stretching war, and it was decided by the moderators that the inevitable follow-on wars would be detrimental for the sim (i.e. more than one member leaving out of pure frustration) so it was negated. The Deus Ex Machina was that then that the offer DID NOT HAPPEN, rewind, try again.

As you can see, a bit of a disagreement on what is what.

Since nothing has been reported since the end of 1908, I would suggest that the coup in some way failed to form a full alliance between Japan and New Switzerland.  The Australian Normans backed one of their own parties for majority and managed to cancel out the take over by Imperial Japan.  While this would mean that the two counties would remain seperated, it does leave a potental opening for a freindship/alliance in the future between Japan and New Switerland if they find they have a common enemy.  However in 1908 there would still be too much blood between them dispite Swiss efforts to keep the Japanese out of the war and on friendly terms.

Thus we have something similar to the status quo as of 1911.

In the post 1908 era, it may be possible, if the Swiss don't stick their foot in their mouths again, that New Switerland could find friends again to counter the growing China.  Their dubious reputation and seeming plots mixed with talk of piracy had up to 1907 made everyone in the region wary of the Swiss in general, and hostile to them is some cases.  Consider that if the Swiss were not so boisterous and undiplomatic, they might have been able to hold onto their Triple Alliance with the Dutch and Brandenburg from 1898 instead of going to war with them in 1907.

Japan's future will also be interesting.  If they have been able to keep any hints of Swiss friendship from the Chinese, the Japanese should still have been gifted Taiwan and Hainam from the Middle Kingdom (better to have rebels in Japanese hands than Swiss hands).

North Vietnam was to be handed over to Brandenburg as a gift for their efforts against the Swiss.  Better to have the foreigners dealing with foreigners the Chinese would say.  (all the French and Dutch that settled there before hand),

A few issues to be cut NOW.

Brandenburg gets North Vietnam and part of Laos.   Courtesy of Phoenix and the good relations with the dissappeared Swamphen.

The Empress, looking at the cost of the islands Campaign, and the possibilities the extra ties to Japan offer, reluctantly allows to ceede the islands to Japan.  Her advisors "metaphoricaly" dance to her first "capitulation to reason".

France is reinforcing South Vietnam heavely especialy along the coast (Fortress Greater napoleon) and the Siamese border.  The MK/DKB border is almost annoyingly underguarded.

I will post 1911 reports when back in Warsaw - on the 23rd or so. You guys go ahead.

Maddox - do you know what the stats (population, IC) and infrastructure for the new Brandenburger acquisitions were?  This would be relevant to me if I'm putting together some DKB catch-up work.

UHM north Vietnam, I have a message somewhere about that...
