Recent history of the United Nations of South America

On May 25 (Vienticinco de Mayo), 1810, after confirmation of the rumors about the overthrow of King Ferdinand VII by Napoleon, citizens of Buenos Aires took advantage of the situation and created the First Government Junta (May Revolution). Formal independence from Spain was declared on July 9(Nuevo de Julio), 1816 in Tucumán.

In 1817, General José de San Martín crossed the Andes to free Chile and Peru, thus eliminating the Spanish threat and laying the foundation for the formation of the Union del Suramerica (USA).

Centralist and federalist groups (Unitarios and Federales) were in conflict until multi-national unity was established and the Carta de Cuerpos que Gobiernan, a loose agreement between Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Peru dictating the type and direction of the conjoined government was signed in 1820 indicating the formalazation and acceptance of the Federal Government (Gobierno Federal) in Buenos Aires.

From the 1820's until the late 1870's foreign investment and immigration from Europe led to the adoption of modern agricultural techniques. In 1835 Peru withdrew from the Carta de Cuerpos, which they were free to due at any time, and announced their independance.

From 1880 to 1900, USA enjoyed increasing prosperity, prominence and became one of the top 10 richest countries in the world, through an agricultural export-led economy. The population of the country swelled sevenfold.

Conservative forces dominated Union politics through non-democratic means until 1900, when their traditional rivals, the Radicals, began to revolt against the corrupt government. This revolution lead to the disbandment to the Carta de Cuerpos and the creation of a new constitiution of democratic style.

Unfortunately Peru and the Deutsches Kaiserreich Brandenburg used this disruption as well as the lack of communication across the Andes to aquire large chunks of the northern and western sections of the Union between 1903 and 1906. To complicate matters the natives in the Patagonia region to the south became a problem and were driven almost to the point of extinction, leading to Rohan stepping in and securing another strip of land from the Chilean region and the Gobierno Federal then allowed the remaining tribes to occupy the extreme southern section, as seen in the 1906 map.  see appendix A

After the dust settled the country was reformed in 1907 as the United Nations of South America (Naciones Unidas de Suramérica) with the capital remaining in Buenos Aires, but with much greater transparency on the governments part. The independent region of Paraguay was granted increased power in both houses of Congress with equal representation to the regions contained in Argentina.

The new Government has forgiven the Peruvians for their indiscretions, as they are our cousins by continent, but the DKB is still thought of as unscrupulous as they have since sold the land taken to the Gran Columbians.
